I asked this question in two different threads, and it wasn't answered. Given the nature of a forum like this, though, I suppose it's possible that it slipped by without it being seen by those to whom it was directed.

The scenario:

Two people have been convicted of crimes.

The first is a 50 year old white male. He has a steady job and pays his taxes, and has had only minor indescretions (speeding tickets, jaywalking, etc) with the law in his past. This time, however, we was convicted of the kidnapping and rape of a nine year old child. The child survived, but was so damaged that she will never be able to bear children.

The second is a 50 year old black man. He has a steady job and pays his taxes, and has had only minor indescretions (speeding tickets, jaywalking, etc) with the law in his past. This time, however, he was convicted of burglary. The total loss to the victim was less than $1,000.00.

You have sole discretion to award one of two sentences to the convicted criminals. One sentence is life in prison without the possibility of parole. The other is 250 hours community service and 12 months probation.

The question:

Which criminal gets which sentence, and why?

It's an svg file. Which stands for Scalable Vector Graphics. It's most likely harmless. If you're running Windows you might not have a file extension association for it, which would cause the download suggestion.

Given the tone of many of the posts I've read lately, this question is asked with absolute sincerity.

I fully expect the "usual suspects" to dodge it, though, as Frank has done. That, alone, speaks volumes.

To me, the sentencing is obvious. I'm merely looking to find out what others think would be the correct assignment of sentences.

Amazing that such a simple thing vexes you so...

It is a highly insulting question and one expected of an internet troll. I have to say that I am not surprised by the behaviour of the new arrivals but I am shocked at the childish behaviour of USPOL members who claim to be proponents of tolerance.
