Re: Witchhunt on child porn

It's not an easy problem to solve I admit.

I'm still for a national one strike law.

You (we) cannot ever let these creeps out without having to assume SOME of the guilt for future crimes they commit against children.

I know many disagree with this, but that's how I see it.

I already removed my post seeing as how Captain Trips already went after you on it.

That's OK. I understood. All the posts were made in close time proximity.

Re: Witchhunt on child porn

And before people give me that crap that "people who were molested as children are scarred for life and live a tortured existence", let me make a quick point.

Child molestation happens more often than people think it does, as it often goes unreported. Not every 3 year old is going to spill the beans, for a large variety of reasons. Due to this, there are quite a lot of people living normal, healthy, happy lives today that were molested or sexually abused as children. Sure, some people never really recover from it, but I have seen no evidence that this is anywhere near the norm. People often use traumatic and unfortunate events from their childhood as excuses for an inability to cope with the world that would've been present, either way. Again, this isn't always the case, though.

I think it's pretty obvious how many murder victims are living normal, healthy, happy lives today.

LOL, I just addressed this my last post without seeing yours first.

I think I'd rank pretty high up there in such a competition, myself.

I do know that there are some victims/survivors of child molestation who are very messed up years after the crime. I do believe there are some victims/survivors who are not as messed up and fully functional. What I am taking into consideration is the number of victims and the intesity of their suffering. With a victim of child molestation also running the increased risk of being murdered, the family members will also be more intense victims in this case. To me, having more victims and the surviving victims suffering the worst of all - losing a child - should be prevented as much as possible.

Interesting how some of the seemingly most "disturbed" thinkers can be some of the safest people to BE around isn't it

Yea, there's no evidence out there that says "if you are molested as a child, you will live a terrible life".

The way I look at it is, which crime ruins the most lives. With a murder, there's no going back and the only way for the victim's family to heal is through time. With a child molestation, people can still be with the victim, which comforts them and the victim.

While it would be terribly rude for me to ask anyone to seriously entertain this thought (so I do not expect any reply from anyone), if a loved one was going to fall victim to one of these crimes, which one would be the better of two evils?

I don't mind answering: To me the greater of two evils would be losing the child to murder after that child had suffered molestation.

As many surviving family members would say that they would gladly change places with the victim so that that child would not have suffered and died, I have to believe my answer has some validity.
