Re: Witchhunt on child porn
It's not an easy problem to solve I admit.
I'm still for a national one strike law. You (we) cannot ever let these creeps out without having to assume SOME of the guilt for future crimes they commit against children. I know many disagree with this, but that's how I see it. |

Re: Witchhunt on child porn
And before people give me that crap that "people who were molested as children are scarred for life and live a tortured existence", let me make a quick point.
Child molestation happens more often than people think it does, as it often goes unreported. Not every 3 year old is going to spill the beans, for a large variety of reasons. Due to this, there are quite a lot of people living normal, healthy, happy lives today that were molested or sexually abused as children. Sure, some people never really recover from it, but I have seen no evidence that this is anywhere near the norm. People often use traumatic and unfortunate events from their childhood as excuses for an inability to cope with the world that would've been present, either way. Again, this isn't always the case, though. I think it's pretty obvious how many murder victims are living normal, healthy, happy lives today.

Re: Witchhunt on child porn
I think I'd rank pretty high up there in such a competition, myself.

The way I look at it is, which crime ruins the most lives. With a murder, there's no going back and the only way for the victim's family to heal is through time. With a child molestation, people can still be with the victim, which comforts them and the victim. While it would be terribly rude for me to ask anyone to seriously entertain this thought (so I do not expect any reply from anyone), if a loved one was going to fall victim to one of these crimes, which one would be the better of two evils?

That sounds like a challenge....

As many surviving family members would say that they would gladly change places with the victim so that that child would not have suffered and died, I have to believe my answer has some validity.
