The decision to get shot was theirs. Horn merely fulfilled their desires.
And, who would freeze when some crazy old guy comes out of his house with a shotgun?

I sure as shit wouldn't, and I'm not a burglar.

Methinks that if they had frozen, the bullet holes would simply be in their front instead of their back. Too bad for Horn, as that probably would have made for a cooler campfire story.

Obviously, he WAS sure, but that doesn't make him RIGHT about the situation. Hell, even the cops make mistakes, as shown by the occasional shooting of an innocent and this bird was NO cop.

Sometimes I think some of these good ole boys think they're living out a cowboy movie. The only thing is, in the movies the good guy NEVER shot a man in the back. Don't movie cowboys think that is the ultimate in cowardice?

I've heard some Texans imply their state is like a different country. When I see stories like this, I'm tempted to believe it.

Mm.

Sounded to me that the only thing he was sure about was his intent to kill those two men.

I'd also like to point out something for the various injections of machismo into the thread:

If Horn were really a badass, he wouldn't have gone out there with a gun. He would have gone out, dropped and hogtied one of those motherfuckers, and sat there chatting with him while the cops arrived to throw him in the clink. WWCND - "What Would Chuck Norris Do?"

Horn's a pussy.

Chuck Norris would try to sell them bad exercise equipment.

But you wouldn't be in the situation to start with if you weren't a burglar, he did it specifically because he knew they had intruded on his neighbor's land/property.

He did it because he thought that they had intruded.

He didn't know his neighbor.

He intended to kill them, regardless. He very easily could have killed two innocent men, instead.

No but my point was you wouldn't be in a situation like that, and even though you may well be worried that someone is telling you to "freeze", if they had a gun to you and you weren't in the wrong wouldn't you stay still? If they are holding a gun at your head for no reason they are more likely to be the type to fire at you and kill you, no?

As for not knowing the were burglars, well he did see them break in according to his report to the police from sone of the follow up links to the original story posted here.

And, as stated by several, people breaking into their own houses is not uncommon.

Who can honestly say what they would do were some crazy old Texan guy carrying a shotgun to burst out of a house. My first instinct would be to run, I'd think. I'm not sure that one would even have time to process anything that the guy said before their feet would start moving.

As Doc put it above, where he said "if she weremore brown looking", Horn knew they weren't his neighbors, and if it came down to it, by simple fact that they weren't white. He knew they were not the folks who lived there.

But he didn't really know what was going on.

Not being white is not an indicator of guilt.
