Re: Mom 'Thrilled' Over MySpace Indictment as Neighbor Prepares to Surrender

I think that sentencing this vaguely crazy woman for somebody else's suicide is wrong. She's going to have to live with guilt regardless, but I don't think that this is an appropriate thing to put somebody in jail for.

If you want to put what really caused this suicide in jail, get out your butterfly net and go try to catch the elusive crazunhappedous teengirlous, more commonly known as Sadandloopy.

If I'm going to hell, you bet your ass that it'll be for something a lot more fun than sitting in jail for things other people did

Yes, well her internet interactions were what caused this loopy little chickee to take her own life. How sentencing in cases like this is meted out is a question for someone who knows law very well.

We know who that is. Maybe we'll see some input from that one

Really?

Chickee couldn't log off the 'net?

FFS, it's like blaming Ozzy 'cause your kid killed himself.

Personally, I'd be interested to know from a legal standpoint what implications it has that the mother misrepresented herself to obtain private information. I wouldn't think that this would/should have any bearing on the girl's suicide, however.

No shit?

The parents, then, share some culpability.

I know that sounds cold, but they not only allowed their daughter into the MySpace environment, they encouraged it, knowing that it was against the rules to do so...

Yes that IS quite a stupid thing to have done on her parents part.

The sad results should serve as a lesson to parents all around the country.

What is really sad is that it WON'T.

Re: Mom 'Thrilled' Over MySpace Indictment as Neighbor Prepares to Surrender

I think its easy to want this woman to pay for what she did, after all not only did she torment a young girl, she's suppose to be a parent and of all things an adult. Though I don't see that she did anything criminal, I mean she's certainly no Mother Theresa but just because she can be considered a despicable human being doesn't make her criminally responsible for a teenagers death. Especially when its unclear why she killed herself, sure the bullying was part of it but there is also here emotionally instability and the argument that she had with her mom that is more clearly linked to her death.

I blame the parents here, teenage years can be rough, especially when parents have absolutely no clue how to handle a teenager as apparently here.

Yes, very good points.

The happiest years of my life that I'm happy to have almost completely FORGOTTEN. Not ALL because I was hopped up on substances that me and my "peers" were playing around with. "Thats living man." was a popular saying. Yeah, we were "living" alright.

We were really trying to get away or through the shitty teen years.

I guess.

What a crappy age.

Well whatever drove her to do what she did, I think we can all agree that its a mistake to make annoying people and simply saying hurtful things a crime. Bullying in it self has never been considered a crime, aspects of it sure, but in that case there are already laws on the books. Assault, slander, etc. Yes, she did a terrible thing, but I don't see a crime here.

(Sigh.) Unfortunately, bad parenting isn't a criminal offense unless it crosses the line into overt cruelty or neglect. Too bad.
do you have any children? I'll wager no.

If I was the father of the girl who hung herself. I would most certainly end up spending the rest of my life in prison.

You lose. I have two daughters. The younger one graduates from high school this year, and the older graduated from college last year.
