Polanski pleased guilty. He was sentenced to forty-some-odd days for "evaluation", and stood to be sentenced by the court pending the outcome of that evaluation.

Polanski split.

This isn't about being sentenced for child molestation. Now, it's about him being sentenced for fleeing the country, which he justly deserves.

The victim feeling bad is not sufficient cause to not pursue this...

Grand accusation? Proof of raping a minor. That is more than paltry my friend, that is borderline evil and sadistic

In cases involving minors, the victim doesn't have much say so and she was a minor at the time. The rapist is a fugitive and it's time justice is served.

Utterly irrelevant.

Um, Solletica, there's nothing to "go forward". Polanski pled guilty. There's no trial to be had here, just sentencing.

He committed a crime, he pled guilty to the crime, then he became a fugitive from justice rather than face sentencing like a man. He's been flaunting his freedom, and it's finally caught up with him.

Guilty people going to jail is the very definition of legitimate justice.

I'm referring to the one where the attorneys in the case, his own and the DA, agreed on a plea bargain deal wherein he would spend the 42 days 'under observation', and that would be that.

The judge indicated he would disregard the deal, and from that everything else we're talking about here came about.

That, and the victim of this case has since contradicted her original claims.
