Agreed. This is all pretty fucked up.

No one is saying anything about this girl. The sad fact is, hundreds of thousands of people go missing each year in the US. 10% of those people are never found. Yearly. Year in and year out. Over and over. I hope they find her, just as I hope they find all the other nearly countless people that vanish every year.

Metallica, a band who's total net worth is probably approaching the billions, giving $50k is a symbolic gesture, most likely meant to garner positive PR more than anything.

So how much would you have them put forward? 100,000? 1,000,000? Listen man, regardless of your opinions about Lars and his campaign against illegal downloads, this seems like a pretty decent move on their part. A young woman went missing at one of their concerts and they feel the need to chip in.

Re: Metalica kicks in 50k for reward

the original reward was 100k, they added another third to boost it to 150K....I just don’t see why the ragging is necessary...she disappeared from the concert, she was at, at the time Miranda, I said that, so maybe they felt some twinge of responsibility/guilt? ........Christ people....

They felt a twinge of guilt, they gave a twinge of money. Sorry, Metallica are still douchebags.

This story comprises two things that I hate:

1) Metallica, who has a history of doing things only for publicity or money.

2) The media's love for human interest stories involving a young attractive white college girl gone missing.

Am I glad Metallica gave the money? Sure I am, but due to their past I have a difficult time believing there was anything altruistic about it. Do I hope this girl is found and reunited with her family? Sure I do, just as I hope anyone who's gone missing has the same fortune. I fail to see why I should care more about this girl than the other 100,000+ folks that are missing, simply because she made the news.

Gosh, you're right.

I mean, after all, it's not like they have any obligation to contribute anything.

Had they offered nothing, and just continued on with their tour, nobody would've criticized them. But, because they contribute "only" $50K, they're demonized...

You have a point, and to be fair, they are between a rock and a hard place. If they hadn't contributed anything, they would have been heavily criticized, no doubt about that. However, $50k seems like a joke, when you and I know they could have afforded much more than that.

They sold out years ago. They stopped caring about the music and the fans, they only care about the money... and that's when their music started sucking ass. I never miss an oportunity to point out what douches they are.

No, it was when their music started sucking ass, and became nothing but formulaic crap-metal. The hair cutting came later.
