You're still missing the point. Nobody is saying that a successful band should be giving their music away for free. But let the newcomers do it, don't take that away from them. In the end, Metallica lost anyway, out-of-touch rock stars that they are.

I'm not sure how much $$ he made, but when Trent was finally free of the record company, he released The Slip for free (you could download it from the site). But you could buy the full album for packaging, etc. which everyone I know did. Not sure where I was going with that.....ignore me.

At the time, it was pretty obvious that they gave up their hard edge, shortened their songs, and slicked up the production... IOW, they sold out. If it makes you feel better to blame it on my emotions or whatever, have at it. Fact is, their music took a turn for the worse.

I think some songs on the black album were inspired, overall, I do see your point...
