ABC News reporting one of the shooters is one, Malik Nadal Hassan, a soldier, didn't catch his rank.

Big surprise there, eh?

What's weird about it, is there seems to have been 3 gunmen indicating something different than just a rogue nutcase.

Well that, and the fact that one of 'em is named, Hassan.

In an all volunteer military - that makes zero sense.
Apparently Fort Hood also houses a stress clinic... it makes sense if this is connected to mental trauma.

re: 12 dead, 31 injured in Fort Hood shooting

It is confirmed.
The shooter converted to Islam recently and had been voicing anger about going to Iraq, and (reportedly) wanted out of the military to go to the M.E. for "other" reasons.
What a FUBAR situation.

re: 12 dead, 31 injured in Fort Hood shooting

Very sad.

On all the news channels I can find right now, I hear things like, "there were apparently no gangs on this base" and "it's like a family on this base, which is why it's so hard to make sense of".

As the cable news channels and people like us on forums like these try to figure out the "motives" of a tragedy like this, it must be noted that when we're dealing with PTSD, motives can become very murky because it is not a typical kind of crime born out of typical motives like revenge or hate or jealousy.

There very well could be concrete "motives" and we'll no doubt hear about what those are, but I'm afraid we're going to look at it from the outside-in instead of the inside-out if it is indeed a tragedy born out of incredible duress and all the pressure that some military members put on themselves when struggling with PTSD.

Yes, it's tragic, but we need to try to understand stress and depression, guilt and shame more than we need to just be shocked and then have the story just go away over time. The stigma associated with mental trauma is real, and many people suffer in deep silence, and I hope an adult national conversation can really happen now that addresses these issues.

Baseless assumptions on your part.

Until we know who the shooters were and why they did what they did, it is entirely premature and more than a bit disrespectful to be making things up about motive and what we need to do in response.

I hope that we can wait until we know something, rather than jumping to unsupported conclusions or attempting to co-opt this tragic incident to fit some other agenda.....

Re: 7 dead, 12 injured in Fort Hood shooting

I’m glad he’s dead. Pity he didn’t die sooner.

Hopefully anyone else involved will meet an untimely demise, as well.

And, I hate to see it, but it just may be time to insist that service members who are Muslims be asked to resign.

There’s not a muslim in uniform who will be trusted after this…

Re: 12 dead, 31 injured in Fort Hood shooting

Twelve people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting spree at a Texas military base by what officials believe was possibly carried out by an Army officer.

Gunman kills at least 7 and wounds 12 at Fort Hood.

The suspected gunman was identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan. That name is gonna start some shit......
