If this ends up being SJS (Sudden Jihad Syndrome), than we need to have an adult national conversation about the implications of that, too, because there are plenty of good Arab-Americans in the military who could be at risk of a heinous backlash from freerepublic type losers who insist on injecting emotion into everything instead of stopping and thinking.

I say we should talk about all this shit and leave the emotional crap to the people who were actually involved in this tragedy, because from what little we do know, some people's true colors are already seeping out.
Including yours, jumping to conclusions without anything to back them up, then getting pissy when someone suggests that your conclusions are baseless.

What is this "national conversation" bullshit?

You're a Canadian.

I have no doubt that there are good Arab-Americans who are Muslim. The problem is that someone probably looked at the dead piece of shit shooter in this case at some time in the past and said "Say, he's a good Arab-American Muslim"...

Roger that. He didn't make rank without somebody thinking he was an American patriot. They were fooled.

Once - just once - could we at least wait until the victims are identified and the bodies are cool before starting a bunch of political / religious finger pointing?

Show some human compassion, for fuck's sake......
You can have compassion and hash things over at the same time.

Personally, I don't care much to sit around having a "My Pet Goat" moment when instead we ought to really be hashing over issues ranging from the over-extension of our best and bravest, muslims in the military, PTSD, the security of our own establishments here at home, how maybe we've been making too many compromises on the mental states of being of some of the people we're allowing to serve in the military.

So many questions and shit to hash over.

So while I'm having compassion, I'm going to equally have my brain turned on and engaged in all these issues we should have already been talking about anyway.

3 of every 4 mosques in the U.S. are Wahhabist sect mosques, so, odds are at least half of them are a serious national security threat and should be treated as such, not fawned over as some sort of protected species, just because a minority of neurotic morons find it all so unpleasant to consider.

We've got freedom of religion, but yeah, they should be watched.

If your brain were so "turned on", you'd understand that you don't actually know what has happened as of yet.

Pardon me if I'm not at all interested in another sermon from you right now. My thoughts are with the victims and their families - and all the families who don't know right know if their loved ones are OK.

Yes, a national conversation.

It is needed much more right now than the typical national crying session that America usually has when bad shit happens and the whole country loses it's shit, never talks about important things, and then let's the window close on actually finding enlightenment about anything.

Re: 12 dead, 31 injured in Fort Hood shooting

A very tragic and sad day.

I just have to say this. Before rushing off to judge based on religion or name you should all realize there are several others of this gunman's faith who have already given their lives in these two wars. I am sure there are plenty more serving now who deserve far better than such quick, harsh and baseless judgements. Also understand that more of our fallen troops in the war in Iraq were based at Fort Hood in Texas over any other military installation.

Give it a little time people and put the jumping the gun asinine statements aside. Regardless of how much time we give the families here, the last thing we should do is jump to some conclusion that all of one faith or another cannot be trusted because of the act of some lunatic willing to do what was done today. Have we really gone that far back?

How many non-citizens are Majors in the Army? I doubt there's any.

Re: 12 dead, 31 injured in Fort Hood shooting

What do you think the percentage of Muslims in the US military is? Probably 2 or 3%? Say 3% then a shooter on a base that is not motivated by a jihad is 33 times more likely to go on a rampage. The odds are VERY good this has something to do with religion or heritage so YES we should be talking about it.
