Working in a similar, hierarchical environment, my money's on incompetence.

Well, if we now have to actually worry about fighting them over here, than spending all that time overseas in two endless wars obviously proves the point that we kick up more hate by being there than by not.

If we're not involved in two wars in the M.E., we'd have never heard of this guy.

I can only imagine the uproar had he somehow been sanctioned for his growing treasonous tendencies. And now fear of that backlash has killed 11 and maimed 31.

You have to keep a tight leash on those responsible for the mental health of our soldier. God knows how many people he could have screwed up before even firing a shot.

yes, I agree, bureaucratic fright breeds incompetence/inefficiency and a molasses pace approach to change or action along these lines.

I hope that the deaths of the at least 12 soldiers will not be in vain.
Let's hope that the outrage from this event will be enough to make changes in the military as a whole, or at least at Ft. Hood.
If wecannot protect our soldiers while on our own f*cking bases because our top brass cares more about what people might think - then they do not deserve to be officers in the military.

It would be impossible of course to predict that this traitor would take it this far, however as reported by two fellow officers it had been escalating over the past several weeks - that open confrontations and heated arguments had been taken place over the mans statements and beliefs.

IF it is true that he had lodged complaints of harassment and had a lawyer and had been speaking of violent proclivities, he should have been put on admin. leave , but as I said, since he had lawyered up, this could have been problematic for the brass.
