Re: Your Creations Thread
I’m a model builder of mostly sci-fi and American space craft and launch vehicles.
I recently won a bid on building 7 desk models of the new ARES launch vehicle that’s to replace the shuttle. I also have on loan a few older rockets displayed in the lobby at the planetarium at U.S.F. I’m making a shuttle from the movie “Armageddon” as a gift for an engineer at Sporian Microsystems in Colorado to kinda keep me in mind for future shelf bids.

Re: Your Creations Thread
I did not create a poem but will later do so. In the meantime this poem contrasting 1849 to 2008 gives paise for reflection.
A look back ! From the ladies magazine and album…Jan. 1849. A Runaway Slaves Farewell ……by Molitor Hail columbia ! happy land. For all whose rights are free; But tyrants rule upon thy strand, No freedom’s here for me. The Stars and stripes the white man waves, And says his country’s free; But blacks are nothing here but slaves, ‘tis not the land for me. My boat is manned, my sails are spread, Blow, winds, for freedom blow, From slavery’s land we far are fled, No stars nor stripes we show. Why was I born with dark-hued skin ? Why am I made a slave to whites ? I have a mind, a soul within, I am a man-have I not rights ? We all by one great God were made, To all of us was reason given; But whites make us a things of trade, Our dearest ties in twain are riven. Farewell, inhospitable shores, Farewell my native land; Freedom from slavery now is ours, For we have left Columbia’s strand. |

Re: Your Creations Thread
My own drummer I’ve been since I was a lad
and all the years of my life I’m sometimes disturbing and often unnerving but few would say that I’m bad. Don’t mind getting older, in fact makes me bolder and say the things on my mind When push comes to shove I take off my gloves and try to deliver in kind. |

Re: Your Creations Thread
Hymn to the Dragon Spirit
This mountain top is bare and cold, empty of life, save me And you in me, my hard and pitiless friend, my savage fire. Far below, the oblivious ones scamper through their fates, Fireflies blinking on and off, alive, dead, alive, And I among them, even as I stand atop this peak, Equally pointless, equally blind, but for you in me. You dazzled me that first night, when from the spirit smoke You came in answer to the call my heart gave to the wind, All night-blue scales, sinuous flesh, dancing sparks of fire, Great moon-deep eyes that held my gaze and gave me promises Of wisdom, secrets, mysteries, dreams, borne upon your wings, Promises you've kept, with splendid ruthlessness and joy. We think we want to know, but we do not. The truth is hard, The heart is soft, and would be gently wrapped in foam of lies. Soft love lies so. Your love is hard as diamond, sharp as fangs, Furnace-hot with dragon-fire that banishes the mist And leaves my soul no hiding place, no refuge from the truth. Oh, aye! You brought me wisdom! Without pity or remorse. All men have enemies: there is a truth we'd be denied, And shadowed by your wings, I'm guarded with a cruelty That twists my heart from those who would betray or wish me ill, And when I move to mercy for the undeserving, then Your burning eye turns upon me instead. Thus have I learned To feed the Dragon on the blood of foes, and spare my own. But oh, to soar upon those Dragon-wings into the sky, My spirit merged with yours, to take my leave of gravity And float from star to star upon the wind-ways of the mind! To see the ages spread before me, eyes so full of fire That naught can hide from me, to see in color in the night When mortal eyes see only black and white, if see they do! To breathe the Dragon-fire – yes, breathe it out, oh! That indeed, But more to breathe it in, to sear away my mortal flesh And mortal self, incinerating this-is-this and that- Is-that, until all boundaries are gone, and all is One – Is None – is once again the primal ab initio Where hides that Peace we seek, but dare not venture where it is! These are the gifts you give to me, the gifts you promised me Those years ago, when in my dazzled youth I called to you And loved your dreadful beauty and the magic in your eyes. And though I understand the price now, yet I love you still, For this is Dragon wisdom: price and purchased good are one, And it's the paying that's the gift, and it's the gift that pays. |
