    Question

If I were given a flat piece of metal and told to cut and fold it to hold the maximum amount of fluid possible with the particular amount of material given to work with I found the dimensions could vary while the content remained static.

If I were told the exact dimensions needed I found the length of the 4 45 degree cuts at each corner before folding was the governing factor.

How would a formula be expressed to quickly give me the answer to the depth of the cuts for various content amounts or would this info be available in booklet form.

    Re: Question

Maybe I'm thinking about this wrong but wouldn't the max volume simply be a square box and the cuts would simply be the hypotenuse of the angle from each outside corner to the corner of the center square? Also, why do lap seams? Just cut an equal size square out of each corner and weld the seams.

    Re: Question

Can we use a hydraulic press to compress the metal into a thinner, bigger piece?

Or reduce it all to powder and run it through an injection molder (MIM)
