Re: Recommend a good work or fiction~
Dan Brown is fairly unremarkable, I'd say (I think I've read all of his books while on some airplane or another), but the worst? Thumb through the popular books section and I'd put pretty much anything in the "romance" category down as worse. There's also some pretty horrible science fiction and probably mainstream fiction as well.

Aside from it being horribly written ( ), I knock it because I think the message it sends to girls is downright evil.

If I had a teenage girl, I don't think I'd let her read it. But I enjoyed it.

Re: Recommend a good work or fiction~
what am I thinking... Anne Rice ! that vampire stuff is delicious !
and she is a very nice lady to boot. responded to both emails I sent her. BTW, her Christ the Lord books are quite good too. Very convincing look at life way back when for a Son of God coming to figure out His path. Two out, at least one more on the way.

Re: Recommend a good work or fiction~
A good mix of political fiction is Vince Flynn. He's a seriously good read about action and Washington intrigue with a dash of anti-terrorism thrown in. "Term Limits" is brilliant and suck you right in from page 1. Matthew Reilly is also really good. To start with I'd recommend "Seven Ancient Wonders', or "Area 7".

I just saw on Yahoo News that Dan Brown has a new novel out called The Lost Symbol, about, you guessed it, the Freemasons again!

Oh, Tom Clancy of course. I think he retired from the Jack Ryan series though. Hasnt written one in years. Hes always been spot on with international conflicts.

Re: Recommend a good work or fiction~
Fiction is hard because taste is so variable. If you like an odd stylist you might try anything from Jack Vance's Demon Princes series, of which The Palace of Love is the best IMO. I will warn you his style is an acquired taste. L. Sprague de Camp in conversation with Keith Laumer once said that many people had found Vance's style "wooden". "Not wooden," said Laumer, "...carved" and I have always found that a very apt description.
Another I've been following recently is Michael Stackpole. His latest series, The Age of Discovery is a sort of alternate world fantasy based on the great voyages of the 15th and 16th centuries but with magic. A Secret Atlas is the first of three books on this intriguing idea.
