    An Apparently Amazing Book

Haven't read this book yet, but the reviews are terrific.

Right, the book by the uneducated, ex-con, anarchist.

I'm sure he means well and that the book is found to be incredibly thought-provoking in certain circles but I'm going to take a pass.

I've already got too little time and way too much reading to do for this to even register as something interesting let a lone a "must read".

No offense to the OP intended. This isn't an argument, just my opinion.

That seems a little elitist. (Not the anarchist part, I can back making judgments on people based on extremist political views, but two out of the three most intelligent people I know (like myself) never finished college)

Cool. I just skimmed through a couple reviews and now the book is on my radar of must reads. If nothing else, it should challenge my system of beliefs. Thanks Tom. I wonder if it's out as a kindle book. I don't have a kindle but I am planning on buying a tablet soon and getting some electronic reading material. For the time being though, the link will be bookmarked.

Apparently, it is only available new from the author. But Amazon does have a few used book sellers listed along with 2 ripoff artists who want to charge you over $100 for a new copy.

    Re: An Apparently Amazing Book

From the review at the link in the OP -

A person becomes an adult when outgrows the need to be given moral commandments from people he thinks of as "authorities," and learns to judge for himself what is right or wrong. This is a book to read to discover just how adult YOU really are. The book as a whole is a litmus test that will show whether the reader is an adult with independent judgment, or still a child, believing every fantasy and superstition that the "authorities" in his life have told him to believe.
    That's crap.

Judging right from wrong is easy and people should be at that point before they hit their teens.

Becoming an adult happens once you are able to get past the judgement part and into the acceptance of your place among others and how your judgement might effect that placement. It's a matter of getting past being a self centered prick and realizing that there is more you can do better yourself. It is a matter of being inspired by those around you and seeking to inspire them as well.

It isn't the simple fact that this guy is uneducated that turns me off.

I've read plenty of books by uneducated authors. I've read a few books by anarchists. I've even read a couple written by ex-cons.

I may have, without even knowing it, read one written by someone who was all three...but it wasn't a book that proports to "challenge and examine" concepts of traditional authority (admitedly, not the author's claim).

I read that review and thought to myself, "hmmm... an uneducated ex-con anarchist who doesn't care for authority, who would have thunk!"

To me, it's more like "three strikes and you're out" kinda thing than a "ewww, yuckie, this fool isn't a PhD".

When everything about you indicates that the decisions you've made in life are going to stack up to your being a failure in society such-as-it-is, and then you write a book that explains why society is wrong and you're right, yeah, just not my cup of tea.

Another tax protestor. All the reviews are pretty obvious plants from other devotees.

When will anarchists realize that the only thing that allows them to even have their ridiculous opinion, let alone disseminate it, is the very government they want to destroy? It's like the Goreans, they hate and despise all modernity and civilization as unmanly, and advocate their cause mainly through using a worldwide network of the most advanced electronics known.

Probably not, because by the time Microsoft releases it Apple will have something better. (I'm no Appleista, mind you, just saying, I think Gates has to retake his company like Jobs did)
