Re: Appeal for computer technology

I can't seem to get the cupholder to work. Or the computer itself, for that matter. The screen is dark, no matter what I do. I tried to look at the back of the computer to see if I could figure something out, but the power is out in my building, so it's too dark for me to look at the back of the computer.

Pedal faster, you're not generating enough voltage.

Sorry. I can't help you out. My mouse is possessed and moving around the screen by itself. A friend had me install some program called pcAnywhere and now my mouse keeps doing things all by itself. (Yes, this was an actual tech support call I personally received.)

Sincerely Yours,

Re: Appeal for computer technology

Wow...

I do some tech support, but it's only for my own software when our service department can't handle it via 'triage' or when no one is available. One of the sillier things I've heard is someone was complaining that the user would do a file import and "the records are disappearing." After spending a couple of days intermittently trying to resolve the problem, I discovered that it was happening because the user was getting impatient waiting for it to finish, hitting control-alt-delete, and killing the application in the middle of the import.

Doing tech support generally makes me glad I don't do tech support very often.

Re: Appeal for computer technology

I HATE MY #@*&!@#&&%#@ COMPUTER (my old one, anyway). I wrote a letter. The hourglass comes on. For TEN MINUTES I could not move the curser up or down, or the bar on the side. So, I surrender and bail out. Except, modern computers don't let you bail. You have to wait ... and wait ... and wait. Control-alt-del ... and wait ... and wait ... and wait.

Someone needs to design a computer that will instantly stop a program and instantly shut down.

Re: Appeal for computer technology

My favorite is Microsofts fucked up idea that windows updates should be done as the default when you shut down. Its like they never considered that when I'm shutting down my laptop to carry it to the next place I have to go, I might not be in a little bit more of a hurry than waiting 10 minutes for windows to install its security patches.

I quickly learned to never shut down the computer unless I have lots of time or unless the system crashes and there is no choice (but then of course windows wont install its updates).

How about "Windows Genuine Advantage", which I figure is nothing more than a system so Microsoft can intrude into your computer to check your software.
