Yes, but there aren't any alternative solutions. I mean even if your traveling near the speed of light your not traveling enough. Either way its a problem that we don't really have to worry about, considering we have enough on our plate as it is. It'll be hundreds and hundreds of years before we even master our solar system, if that.

I just wonder what it would be like for the first generation that will go to live on that new planet.
Only problem is, you have to find somewhere to go first. So far as we know, Earth is the only habitable planet in the entire Universe.

Sorry to break it too you, but Star Trek is anything but realistic. I mean hell, Communism/Socialism actually works in that alternative reality! O.O Thats because Communism/Socialism are great idea's until you factor in human nature. Then you realize that humans are greedy bastards. Not necessarily over land or money either. Personally I think the Star Trek Universe should stay dead, its time as long since passed.

Re: What is the point?

Mostly though, space travel depends a lot on our ability to get along as a species. Now, I'm not suggesting that we will, its in our nature to disagree with each other and be stubborn about our view until the day we die. It's also our right, but if we don't do this as a species we won't do it at all. Don't depend on the Private sector either, because they'll only do as much as will be profitable and will stop there. Either by choice or by lack of funds.

First, you've refuted nothing.

Second, yes, you are the silly one...
I should have said "shown to be unproven/unsubstantiated." Still, it changes nothing. Your argument has been shot down.

I don't see how. You've not proven that going to the moon was not the most effective way to get things done. Until you can do that, you've done nothing...

Why do you assume I go to such a school?

What do you mean you don't see how? Your argument rested on the premise that "someone smarter than Slon" chose the idea for its effectiveness:

When I said: Are you saying that the most efficient way to discover smoke detectors and microwave ovens is to send a man to the moon while you're at it?

You answered:

This will likely be difficult for you to digest, but people who are a fuck of a lot smarter than you determined that...

And once again, you don't take issue with the facts in my post, that being that someone else, who's a lot smarter than you, made the determinations that you now disagree with.

I asked you how you knew:

Why do you think they chose it for its effectiveness?

And you admitted that you didn't, thus admitting that your argument was unsubstantiated:

I have no idea.

Because you conduct yourself in the immature manner consistent with what would be expected from a child...

What do you base that on? Do school children generally hand you your ass in arguments?

No, which is another reason I believe you to be a child...

I'm sure that, in your little "Mommy and Daddy give me everything I need and tell me I'm a big boy" world, you did.

What you fail to understand is that only immature children live in such worlds. In the real world, mature adults see not only the futility of your arguments, but also the immature manner in which you present them...

Don't be a sore loser, Steve. You know you got your ass handed to you.

Whatever my arguments are, they allowed me to hand your ass to you.
