One of the problems with our space program is the serious lack of long term goals. Its way too easy to only focus on short-term goals and plans. I think its a symptom of the way our government is run because every four years we have a completely different set of priorities.

Yeah, ever since Skylab, expended fuel tanks in particular have been a massive waste. A single Shuttle external tank has the internal volume over 5.5 time that of the ISS.

Hopefully the Obama administration can do something right and go with the HLV option from the Augustine Commission report.

If you cannot answer a very direct question which you expect other people to answer, and which I myself have answered, then you aren't worth having discussion with either. Congratulations, you are on ignore, something I have only done to 1 other person in 15 years of posting on BBS's.
Oh... the horror.

I happen to agree with you on this. The International Space Station (ISS) began construction in 1998 and is scheduled to be completed in 2011 and is schedule to continue operating until 2015. . . . Sooooo it took something like 13 years to build and and 4 years later they may scrap it? - wtf!

You want to talk about a waste of money, that is.

Just watched them crash 80mil into the moon, live. It was pretty unspectacular. It sounded from the feed as if the trailing satellite with all the instruments failed to record anything.

The pyrotechnics may leave something to be desired. Even if the LCROSS was damaged in the first blast, there are dozens of orbital and Earth based assets trained on the target.
