This is certainly not the first time we hear something like this in the world of football. Quite odd. These cases do illustrate what animal testing also shows: sporting does not increase your lifespan.

Yup it happened with Marc Vivian Foe in the confederations cup a few years ago, it is indeed unexplainable.

Sometimes, this sort of thing is the result of a congenital defect, and may have been completely undiagnosed.

And sometimes, performance enhancing substances can cause this sort of thing (although there is no indication that this is the case here).

I'd bet it's something congenital. Or maybe a shock to the heart (concussive or otherwise) at just the wrong time to cause a fatal arhythmia.
