Re: UEFA EURO 2008 final tournament

So is this thread dead now?

Just a little side note: I noticed that the spaniards - the players, the trainer, and the people, was not in complete extacy when they won EURO 2008 - as if they somehow felt that it was simply their turn to win. None of the players cried in excitement like others would have.

Well i wasn't gonna say anything until i was gonna make the remaining posts. I'll ask Marc if there's any way that certain specific posters can see when you're online and when you're not.

Carlos Queiroz is set to take over in charge of Portugal and the French coach has kept his job somehow. (God knows why).

Re: UEFA EURO 2008 final tournament

What's your group?

In regards to the next WC i see Italy as winning, i know its early though. But i think that is the last time any of us will ever see Italy win a major championship.

They were the last of the great nations not to be influenced by foreign players but sadly even they have fallen, and their domestic league has the likes of Inter doing well when Milan and Juventus are by far the better outfits.

Also we will see the end of Pirlo, Buffon and even Lippi, who won't come out of retirement again, after the 2010 WC.

Re: UEFA EURO 2008 final tournament

24 teams instead of 16 in the EC from 2016.

So what do you guys think of that? Too many?

Will give lesser nations a chance to qualify i guess, like Wales, Scotland, Ireland (NI too), oh and of course England...

I assume it'll be a format of 4 groups but now with 6 teams in it with the 2 going through again....i have my own opinion on this but what do ya'll think first?

Re: UEFA EURO 2008 final tournament

Nothing positive!

It's just done for the extra TV/commercial money, but weakens the reputation/attractiveness of the imho thoughest football tournament.

I love the World Cup, as I can watch my beloved AlbiCeleste, but even so this tournament comes with the price of unworthy/cannon folder like opponents and with these steps (24 teams) the European Cup will become this way as well.

So I have to say, once a conservative, always a conservative, so no damn changes!

I'm impressed...i always had you down as hawkish, i just wish you'd get on board on the social issues.

I'll add in my own thoughts in a bit but they're almost identical to yours, but one more question (pretty much in line with the commercialisation/money aspect) the Uefa Cup will now be called the Europa Leagua or something from next year with a CL like format, good or bad?

Unhappily I haven't read much about the upcoming changes for the Uefa-Cup/Uefa Europe League Cup, so not sure what to think about it.

Anyway I always liked the Uefa-Cup and enjoyed that there is an international competition for the not so hyper rich/smaller clubs from smaller countries and with a bit more focus on marketing & more exclusive terms in the later stages, it could be a real successful idea again.

For example some people call it a fantastic idea that at a certain stage CL-trop out teams continue to play in the Uefa cup and that it's good for the cup, but I don't like it and feel that it's weakening the reputation of the Uefa Cup (and the chances for smaller countries clubs). I mean the Uefa cup shouldn't serve as a safe net for wannabe big clubs failing amoungst their real rivals.

Damn i'm drifting away from the topic, so to make a long story short; I hope the changes will be good.

I was hoping for more than just one response to this...none of the rest of you who were in the thread have an opinion on this?
