Baseball Season

I thought I'd create a thread for anyone interested in the 2008 season.

I also want to point out that the Cubs have the best record in baseball, because it might not happen again until 2032. I don't know how long it can last, but it sure was fun to tune in yesterday and see that 7 of 8 position players were hitting over .300 and the lowest batting average in the lineup was .282

Re: Baseball Season

I would like to see The Cubs win it all simply because the enthusiasm of the fans for it alone would make it entertaining enough.

Ahhh is there nothing like the tormented, pathetic, last stand of unrequainted love for the cubs by one of their fans……

Look trips, I like you, you seem a nice enough sort, and I don’t want your feeling getting stomped into the dirt again when the inevitable flame out occurs….so, if you like, you can come on over and jump on the Mets bandwagon, I won’t tell…hell I am a life long Yankee fan but have jumped the wagon for the cross town team….....come on…you know you want too….what? you wanna go through the same old thing, late august, first place nowhere in sight, slouched over tiolet, totally faced, dark room contemplation of that 3 state shooting spree, starting at a certain office on Clark and Addison….come on…let it go……just c l o s e y o u r e y e s ...yes thats it.....now slow down your breathing...innnnn.....ouuutt...repeat after me...the cubs won't win in 3 centuries...yesss...come over luke...look in your heart...I am your father....

Re: Baseball Season

lol... Clark and Addison would turn into Mardi Gras. There would be a non stop party there for at least a week. I remember at a playoff game in 2003 there were people just milling around the stadium drinking in the streets for a few blocks like a festival - and that wasn't for a World Series game much less a win.

Speaking of flameouts, did you catch any Mets playoff games last year?

Re: Baseball Season

For the good of your heart, I hope you guys win it all this year, so I'm sending you that positive energy. I watched the first Bosox series win believing we would lose every game. I'm thinking you should take this approach. From the first pitch, just keep thinking "We are going to lose this, we are going to lose this."

If it works out, you can thank me after you sober up.

Re: Baseball Season

It should be a good summer for baseball in Chicago. I think the White Sox have a real shot in the Central and the Cubs should win their division fairly easily. I've got a couple of buddies living a few block from Wrigley this summer, so I'm definitely hitting a few games with them. Even though they're both Cubs fans, I've even persuaded them to agree to a couple trips to the south side to watch some games. It's way too early, but I can't help thinking about how great White Sox-Cubs World Series would be. Maybe that's part of the reason I love the baseball season so much. There's always hope this time of year.

Re: Baseball Season

lol... A red line World Series? Seems hard to imagine, though that would be incredibly cool. I wouldn't mind catching a few games at Comiskey this summer myself - I enjoy baseball in any park (plus the food there is really good)

When I was a kid and went to Cardinal games with my dad I always pigged out. Nachos and Ice Cream where my usual.

They do have great food. Comiskey gets a bad rep sometimes, but I think it's a pretty nice park. The changes they've made over the last few years have helped, even though I'm still no fan of the upper level.

Yeah, that upper level was pretty steep, as I recall. I remember thinking that if I had a few more beers I might do a header down one of the aisles

I always meant to get down there and check out a game at the old stadium, but obviously it's too late for that now. I'm hoping to take a jaunt to NYC this summer to see Shea or Yankee stadium before it's too late.

It meant a lot to me because of childhood memories but it wasn't a pretty stadium. Most built in the 60s where very functional and held a large number of people but where not all that pretty really.
