Unhappy Seve Ballesteros diagnosed with a brain tumor

Some very sad news in the world of Golf as the magician from Madrid was diagnosed with a brain tumor:

ESPN - Ballesteros has brain tumor, will undergo biopsy Tuesday - Golf

It is unknown as to whether it is a benein or mallignant tumor but from his reaction of how he will now deal with it and the very worrying headlines that have been run since, it is believed he is dying, and fast.

It is very sad to see, for someone who was playing just as recently as last year.

For me it came as a complete shock, he seemed like a man in great health, but he collapsed and briefly lost conciousness the other day and was rushed to hospital.

Tests showed the tumor, but the size hasn't been determined yet.

I would hope that everyone who follows the sport and any sports fans in general will pray for his health.

Re: Seve diagnosed with a brain tumor

Things are looking really bad for Seve now:

Sky Sports | Golf | News | More surgery for Seve

The first surgery went okay but afterwards he lost consiousness and has suffered severe swelling.

Part of his cranium had to be removed and not all the tumor has been removed. Its unknown yet as to whether its mallignant or not, and he may well need a labotomy too.

Keep the prayers coming folks, he really needs them right now.

Re: Seve diagnosed with a brain tumor

After more complications and the need for more surgery things have finally started to look better for Seve:

ESPN - Seve Ballesteros out of hospital weeks after surgery

He is headed out of hospital and will continue to receive treatment.

A great fighter, he joked that this is his chance to play the "Mulligan of his life".

He has been in hospital for over 2 month now so i'm sure he'll be glad to eat some better food!

Re: Seve diagnosed with a brain tumor

I was wondering when somebody would think that! Add in his surname into the title if you need to.

Re: Seve Ballesteros diagnosed with a brain tumor

Yesterday was Seve's Birthday....i wanted to say something then but didn't.

Its a tough time because its Easter at the moment and now of course the US Masters are on so a lot of the golfers there have been asked about him.

The eyes were most on Jose Marie Olazabel, who is his long time friend and shares the greatest RC partnership record with him. Seve is now going through his 5th bout of Chemo and is struggling. This will be an especially difficult time for him, not only because its his birthday and the festivities of the holy week but because he was actually the first ever European to win the masters. He broke that barrier which has since allowed the likes of Padraig, Jose, Immlemen etc to come through.

My thoughts and prayers remain with him.

Re: Seve Ballesteros diagnosed with a brain tumor

Seve Ballesteros is one of the sporting world's true gentlemen, and has long been a source of pride for his nation. It is painful to all of us to see him suffer, but we would count it a greater loss if his life ended prematurely.

Our prayers for his recovery (the remission of that terrible cancer) are all we can do for him now, and that is surely not too much to ask of ourselves and our fellows.

Re: Seve Ballesteros diagnosed with a brain tumor

Hopefully the next time i post about him it will be with much better news. he is a great ambassador for the game, and a very respectful man. I know we all hope and pray that we will see him make a recovery and that he has the love and support of not only his friends and family but his many millions of fans both, in Spain and round the globe.

I think you summed it up perfectly with the use of the word "gentleman". He is indeed that and while golf is seen as the "gentleman's sport" there are some bad apples who sometimes lose their cool and are foul or obnoxious like Anthony Kim or John Daly who regularily disgraces himself and the sport.

They are generally the exception to the rule and while most golfers show extremely proffessional ettiquette, Seve goes far and beyond the call of the game. He has taken players like Sergio under his wing, he has helped reform charachters like Jimminez, he has done great amounts of charitable work with his trust and the proceeds of his earnings, he has been a great father, he has helped heal the rift between European and American golfers, he has won majors as a European and won titles on both the European and American circuit, he has been a great fighter for the honor for the Ryder Cup (which is played for free, no fees or winnings involved) and many many more achievements.

A one in a million, who does indeed deserve our thoughts and prayers.

Good post highforester.
