Re: How'd Your Team Do?

Well, he's a good owner, but a terrible GM. I wish he would stop being so damned hands on with this team. He's gotten worse since Jimmy Johnson left. It's almost comical. The hype about the new stadium has kind of turned me off. The prices are ridiculous, and I refuse to attend any games. To be honest, I'm getting fed up with all the greed I'm seeing with professional sports. So I'm not as passionate about it anymore. If they win or lose, it won't make or break my day.

I agree. It was even hard for me to get fired up about the Yankees this year. If it hadn't been for Girardi, Pettite, Posada, Jeter and Rivera, I might not even have watched. Lou Gehrig is my favorite Yankee.

I wish Jerry Jones would get a good coach and quit trying to manage the team. I couldn't stand Terrell Owens (I hate self-indulgent showboats) so I have mixed feelings. If the Cowboys do well, it would show that Terrell Owens was no big deal. But, I hate any kind of reward to head Jerry Jones' way.

i feel like people often hold athletes and franchise owners to a different standard than people in other industries. why shouldn't an athlete be paid what he is worth? why shouldn't an owner charge that price that will bring him the most profit?

oh i certainly don't.

i actually work for a large executive compensation consulting firm and i understand how compensation affects things like retention and attracting the right employees.

edit: i will say though that i hate the fucking yankees and i do believe that the mlb would benefit greatly from a profit-sharing system similar to that of the nfl.

Most people who aren't Yankees' fans hate them.

that's true...and they're part of the reason why i've never been able to seriously get into the mlb or baseball in general.

as a kid i was an orioles fan, mostly because of ripken and because my dad would take me to the ballpark every now and again. as i grew older, i realized that it's basically pointless for me to cheer for them because they are in the same division as the red sox and the yankees. now not only do i not care about the orioles, i don't give a shit about pretty much any professional baseball game because i have nothing to cheer for. sure every now and then a team gets lucky, but there are lots of markets that would bring in a lot more cash if their teams had a shot at being competitive. there's a reason why the nfl is king right now.

i go to nats games every now and again because they're really cheap and a day of drinking at the ballpark is a wonderful way to spend the afternoon, but i'm definitely not a baseball fan and can't see myself ever getting into the mlb unless it got a little bit more competitive. it would be a lot more fun if there was some sort of relegation/promotion system like they have in europe to keep it interesting even for the bottom dwellers, but i doubt you'll ever see anything like that happen in the u.s.

Re: How'd Your Team Do?

I don't live near any major league teams (Rangers would be the closest). I enjoy going to the minor league games - tickets are cheap, food is reasonable and I just enjoy the ambiance of the field.

Of course they have every right to do it; and it's the fans' faults for putting that much worth on them. As prices and salaries continue to skyrocket, I made a personal decision that they are not worth giving my money to anymore. It's obvious that others don't feel that way, though.

Patriots win... and it looks like it will be the patriots that will put an end to the colts' streak. Saints off to an aweful start, again. And I thought Mrs.M was kidding when she said the panthers would give them trouble.

Its hard to be a Saints' fan. They never win gracefully or easily.

Re: How'd Your Team Do?

as I said in my previous post, the Saints never win gracefully. This game (23 to 20 right now, but two minutes to go) is driving me crazier than I already am.

I swear, did the Aints sacrifice a chicken to some football voodoo god? This is getting ridiculous. How long can they continue to win on a prayer?
