Yeah, that is the biggest hurdle, whether he will be a WC ready player.

I haven't been following the US team that closely these days, but from what i saw in the conf cup, other than Donavon, the entire team is in need of some serious work.

Altidore is garbage (really a worthless striker), Howard has some issues in goal, and is nothing like Friedel and Keller used to be and we need better leadership from Bradley.

For everyone here who all evidently want us to do well, hope that Portugal can't beat Malta and that the Argies lose their play-off against the 5th Concaf side, that'll improve our chances for next year.

altadore is still learning the game...i prefer him rather than over the hill ching. i'm not sure he was ever that good. we really don't have a lot of quality finishers but i thought jozy played well in the confederations cup. actually calling him over the hill might be too harsh.

Hmmm i actually thought McBride was a decent finisher...

What is it about American strikers ending up at Fulham? I guess that gives me a reason to send Gergie a message, and ask!

I agree McBride was great and showed lots of heart. Players like him have been few and far between for the U.S., unfortunately he's been retired from the USMNT more or less since 06.

Yeah. I think you are right. we don't have too many quality strikers.

McBride is one of the best i can think of in recent memory. We never seen to have excellent quality players...but as a team we can get it together quite well.

Also, we seem to have an abundance of left footed players for some reason...

But he bladder has to make a full recovery which is key...he can't play otherwise.

But this is all of course assuming that he wasn't to blame for the accident, in which case he will be sitting in jail more than likely.

How could he be blamed for the accident, he wasn't even the driver or did I missed something?

No word yet on who was driving, but there was a curfew, which he was in violation of to start with.

So even if he wasn't driving, there's still the chance that the US sports authorities will sanction him.

Apparently the police have said there will be a 2 week investigation....

Re: USA qualifies for the 2010 World Cup (highlights within)

Well there's a whole lot of difference between doing jailtime for causing an deadly accident and useless sport authorities might taking action because of breaching a curfew.

Anyway good and speedy recovery to the guy.

Still no guarantee either way, if he was behind the wheel, he will likely get int trouble, which was my point at the beginning.

But the authorities will probably come down hard on him for the curfew, a woman ended up dead in this, so his comeback may well be delayed longer than just his recovery....

Portugal are thrashing Malta so they may still make it into the tournament sadly.

At least they have to play another match, so there's still a chance that they hopefully screw up, a WC without C.Ronaldo would be so sweet.

Anyway hope the Albiceleste will beat Uruguay, a WC without them is unthinkable for me.

(note to uspol readers: i am allowed to say "greasy, slimy italians" because i am in fact a greasy, slimy italian.)

While we certainly don't "suck", as certain posters would have us believe, I do not think we are strong enough to make that sort of prediction. Also, where is Ukraine coming from? They haven't qualified yet and they are not slated to host the 2014 Cup. Perhaps you are confusing the World Cup with the UEFA European Cup slated to happen in 2012, hosted by both Ukraine and Poland? America, of course, will not take part in that.
