Just replace some of the stars with halfmoons, and it would all fit nicely into that blue square.

[Emphasis mine] Cute .

Rather than the people in the northern border states of the USA being "too stupid" maybe you are ignorant of the incorporation of states and the ramifications of secession?

Why would the Canadians lose that?

All states are allowed to secede on paper, but its very hard to imagine that they would be allowed in practical. Theres nothing that federal politicians would hate more than to give up a part of their country. They would on the other hand love to expand their territory, just like Canadian politicians would. Its therefore obvious that Canada would love to get its hands on a northern U.S. border state.

Because they would have to adapt to the U.S systems.

I'm jesting. It's not a possiblity however, I do want to easily visit Diego Garcia for recreation. Right now, it is not too easy. My understanding is that you have to be invited by the military to visit.

Are you sure? There are different systems on health care etc. in different US States.

Nevertheless, there may be Canadians who think the US system is better. Many Canadians move south.

It would require more than adoption of a different health care system - there are transfer payments from the federal government to the provinces to consider, revenue from lotteries, cigarettes and liquor, inter-provincial tax transfers - it would be impossible to simply transplant into an American-style system.

There are many Canadians who move to the US, primarily to further their careers: doctors, engineers, actors, etc. There is a net loss to the US every year. That said, in recent years we have seen a large increase in the number of Americans coming north. The net deficit is about 12k people/year - down from 15-16k only a few years ago.

None of the American healthcare systems are free for people with money - the Canadian system is. So no Canucks with the capability of rational thinking likes the American systems better. People who move from Canada to the U.S. do it for their career and/or the climate.

To be fair, if you can afford it (good health insurance, fat wallet, whatever), the US health system is capable of providing better service than the Canadian system. If I were unemployed, I'd rather be in Canada with a broken arm than in the US. If I had a job with good health benefits, I'd rather be in the US with cancer than Canada.

Re: New States?

I read that Puerto Rico could be a new state although it is not a state for fiscal reasons...

Cubans are proud of their culture, i really can't imagine a takeover over Cuba...

Re: New States?

what about nation-states. such term is being used more often in academia and largely with business conglomerates.
it seems business will be the democratic voice for the world to be.

That's the way I view it as well. Which is a better way to be? Have excellent care for those with insurance or have average care for all? If we make the assumption that our freer health care system vs. a national health care system is the cause of better service in the US, this is a hard question for me to answer, personally.
