Another corruption case in Louisiana

Damn! What is it about this state that attracts criminal politicians????? Things don't look too good for Shepherd.

Senator indicted in fraud case
Shepherd is accused of laundering cash
Friday, April 11, 2008
By Meghan Gordon

Derrick Shepherd, once considered a rising political star who won three elections and basked in the glory of his military service, was indicted Thursday for allegedly helping a woman who orchestrated an illegal scheme to launder $2 million for her construction bond business.

A grand jury returned a 41-count superseding indictment in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana that charged Shepherd, a Democratic state senator from Marrero, alongside convicted bond broker Gwendolyn Joseph Moyo; her accused "straw man," James Zoucha; and two Nevada corporations she used to do business after being prohibited from writing construction bonds.

Shepherd is charged with three criminal counts of mail fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 85 years in prison, but legal observers predicted that he realistically faces closer to six years...

Hmmm, I think Huey P. had a prejudiced side though! His is another case of actually doing some good things for the state while basically admitting that he wasn't quite honest. Maybe that's who Eddie Edwards was emulating!

Its strange, i don't think its indicative of your state's voters or anything. It does beg the question how they keep getting in!

But i'll hand it to you, you have talked me round on the Landrieus! I guess they're not so bad after all....

I'll be the first to admit that we don't have the smartest voters in La., especially in New Orleans!
As for the Landrieus, I really believe that they both work hard for the state and while I may not agree with everything they do, I'll more than likely vote for Mary when she's up for reelection. I really wouldn't want to see our senior senator ousted when she's already proven herself. Yeah, I know, she's a Democrat and I'm a Republican but crossing party lines doesn't bother me when it means I'm voting for the best candidate.

LOL Nah, it has to be the New Orleans water, which comes from the Mississippi River. The water on my side of the lake is artesian so no chemicals are needed!!!

I think Mary might just hang on.

Here's one of the early polls out on the race:

Rasmussen Reports™: The most comprehensive public opinion coverage ever provided for a presidential election.

Even though we seem to be running with folks named Kennedy in the GOP all of a sudden i think she'll do okay, she is viewed favorably by about 55% and he 62%, and that's good for both of them.

I dunno whether its because both of them have no real problems with the voters as far as scandals go right now and that reflects well in a state where there are major problems with corruption or whether your state is just happy with the cadidates.

One thing i always give credit to your state with is that in other towns and districts in other regions of the country everyone would do everything they can to distance themselves from the corrupt but ya'll don't.

Now i dunno if its because there's such a load of crooks its impossible but to me it seems like you don't have this political sensitivity syndrome that runs everywhere else. You won't just run away from soneone because it may hurt you in the polls an its good to see, somewhat admirale in this day and age to see folks not cowardly fleeing a sinking ship.

Re: Another corruption case in Louisiana

Remarkable as it is, William Jefferson has said he is gonna seek a 10th term and re-election this fall to his House seat!

Unbelievable...

(Sorry i thought i'd put it in this thread rather than start another as it fits the geneal title).
