Re: Coolest Governor Ever!
This is an Alaskan Moose. One of the literally hundreds that populate the Anchorage urban area. Probably the highest concentration of moose in the world.
This moose was quite well known around Anchorage as "Buzzwinkle". This was in downtown Anchorage. The lights you see him wrapped up in are off the trees in town square! ![]() ![]()

The way that the Alaska constitution and its oil revenue structure ensure resource wealth with all Alaskans through the PFD and CBR. So the additional revenue and jobs created by opening ANWR is very lucrative. Also, Alaska lands are %70 owned by DC. So it always makes for a political battle on a buch of issues that are the pet enviromental projects for politicians in the NE and California among other places. The issues are largely complicated, but the overwhelming majority to the tune of like %80 support opening drilling.

Re: Coolest Governor Ever!
I think you were the person i asked about it, didn't Stevens get ANWR into the budget so it couldn't be fillibustered? And then took it out?
Our respones to questions from one another seem to be as long as Palin's long labors!

For instance, the movie Alaska, where it is based in a SE AK generic community. In the meantime, the polar bear nemesis in the movie lives about 1,000 miles north.

If he took it out, then shame on him. But what I have some to learn from Stevens is that he doesnt act without thinking. He is very sly and wise. If he thought he could get it passed he would have. As a side note, he is facing his toughest political competition since the 40 years he has been elected. The very popular mayor of Anchorage Mark Begich is running against Stevens. Begich is also political royalty in AK. But short of an indictment on the FBI investigations surrounding him, I think Stevens will win re-election here. But he will be 92 at the end of his term if he is re-elected. This is his last shot at being the Senator from Alaska... for life.

Re: Coolest Governor Ever!
But that indictment may well be very likely....he is the longest serving Republican in Congressional history btw.

Re: Coolest Governor Ever!
Btw i don't think it was him who actually took out the ANWR attatchement, i think the GOP leadership did because they may have figured the entire budget wouldn't pass.

The indictment is possible. But likely I dont know. I will say that if an indictment goes down the Alaska congressional delegation will be 2/3 democrat. But again, those democrats dont have a chance of being elected unless they come out strong on the second amendment and in favor of ANWR.

Sorry, just a correction on what i said above, the indictment may be likely but it would come out of Justice and not from the FBI.

Re: Coolest Governor Ever!
I've seen the aurora borealis here in Louisiana and though it's a very rare occurrence, it has happened twice in my lifetime.

I will be willing to bet all that she wasn't traveling with a physician or the article would have mentioned it. Since she didn't tell the airline of her advanced pregnancy, they obviously didn't check with the other passengers to see if there was a physician on board that would be able to help her in the case of an emergency. As for modern medicine, I agree that we've made many advances but women giving birth and then continuing with their jobs as few days later was not unheard of even a few generations ago. It was done out of necessity though and mortality rate was much higher. After my C-Section of a 9 lb. 12 oz baby, I was making my bed while still in the hospital because I felt fine. (I got in trouble with the nurses though! ) The day I went into labor with my second child, I was mowing the lawn.I'm not denying that everything turned out well for the governor but as a nurse, I know that she took a risk and from the source I posted, there are doctors that agree. I just can't understand how y'all can't comprehend that!
