What is the difference between could have and did happen? She called her doctor, her doc said to fly home. She did. What is the issue? You want to know the really crazy thing is, she actually flew twice OMG! She had to change planes in Seattle! Or is this really about an inflated dont mess with texas ego and you are somehow offended she in her actions said, get me the hell out of this place, I dont want my child to enter life here. I am gonna venture a guess, if this was California instead of Texas you would be applauding her for leaving. Her having a kid and not wanting it in my state, well that's fine, but her risking her and her child's life is not.

From what I understand, in modern times, babies with DS have otherwise normal deliveries when compared to babies without DS. It is a genetic disorder, not a reflection of the health of a pregnancy.
But again, she never said she was confused. Where did you get that?

DS can effect the labor, or as best i know anyway. My wife was pregnant last year and when she hd some of the early tests and scans they said based on the health of the baby they would advise on whether she should have a hospital birth/home birth etc. They eventually said it would be fine but we went with hospital as it was her first baby and she is young (another factor).

Yeah you would have some ground to stand on if something had happened.

Id like to know how you think she was risking her baby more than if she stayed on the ground. Who is to know that the increased stress caused by being away from her home, her doctor, her other kids and family, wouldnt have caused a comlication. The thing is we will never know. It worked out fine

Forget the "air" issue and her flying but wouln't she have been better off getting to a hospital immedietly so she could at least be hooked up to a couple monitors to measure her oxygen, baby's heartbeat etc?

Well congrats on the baby. What I said was that DS in modern times does not necessarily itself make for more of a risk when compared to many other factors.

Maybe not but it is an overall factor with everything else combined, like for example in this case the baby was a month early. All that combined is reason enough to worry imo.

For example with my wife even though we went to hospital just to be on the safe side everything was fine. The labor lasted 33 minutes overall (all natural, no gas and air even lav alone an epi) but what harm did going to the hospital do?

If and when we have another we may well have a home birth because the first went so well and my wife will be a little older.

Well Alaskans pay attention to everyone else while we are largely forgotten.

I dont know the level of medical care. I know she would have been traveling with probably one plain clothed Ak State trooper that is in the VIP protection branch. Who would have considerable medical training. Probably to the level at least of an EMTII minimum. I would also venture a guess that there was an actual MD on the flight by coincidence. Alaska Airlines wouldnt have let her get on that plane if they thought the risk was to big.
