Excuse me? You have reached a new low in dishonest debating.

I have said repeatedly in this thread that teaching children English is of utmost importance.

So instead of lying about what I write, try taking a class in reading comprehension.

I suspect you were taught in English. It shouldn't so very hard.

Let me make myself a little clearer - I am asking you how is teaching children aged K-8 IN ENGLISH going to "Completely fuck you". Can you explain what you mean without acting like a three year old?

Because if you don't speak English, how are you supposed to learn in it? If you wait until you can properly learn in English to start learning things like basic arithmetic, then you are already at a gross disadvantage.

If you learn better in Spanish, why not learn in Spanish while simultaneously learning English until you are adequately equipped to learn other subjects in English.

Do speak a second language, Alex?

Do speak a second language, Alex?
We are talking about 5 yrs old to 14 year old kids. They take to learning like a fish to water. Of course, if they have special needs they should be addressed, but generally speaking, English only education produces better results. In California the standardized test scores showed a marked improvement after instituting Prop 227 :

STAR test scores and gains for elementary grades in selected districts, 1998-2000
Proposition 227--English for the Children

But lets suppose a 12 year old Spanish speaker comes to the USA and goes to school. Do they use different symbols for +, - , x , etc...in spanish? How hard is it to learn a dozen or so words in English? Add, subtract, divide, mulitply, equal, etc...I guarantee you that I can do math in Spanish or english, and I don't speak very much Spanish. I don't think your logic holds water.

As for a second language - I grew up in an Italian family and I speak conversational Italian - I am not fluent, but I got by pretty well when I last visited Italy .....

I think most people are really quite OK if we have some bilingual education in our schools - but the original post was about fully converting 2 schools to Spanish only - that is really going in the wrong direction, IMHO.

Re: Superintendent proposes making 2 public schools Spanish language

It's kind of interesting when we have this question, which is really about local control of the school system, who supports the Superintendent and who feels local control should be sacrificed for national politics.

Unless, of course, your interest is in creating a host of little brown English speakers with no marketable skills, thus forcing them into low paying service sector jobs to wait hand and foot upon those who were allowed to learn.

Emphasis mine.

As you see here, students, Donkey said immersion (teaching the spanish speaking kids reading, math, science, history, in English) will completely fuck them.

Alex misunderstood and thought teaching the kids English would be what fucks them.

But common sense will tell us that you must teach the Spanish speaking kids English before you can teach them other subjects using the English language. If you don't you're just wasting tax payer money talking to a kid who has no idea what you're saying. I'm pretty sure only a moron would do that for more than one class period.

Teach subjects in Spanish and teach English as well. When the kids are fluent, take them out of the Spanish speaking classes and put them in with the English speaking class.

How hard is this people?

It's all just simple logic.

Re: Superintendent proposes making 2 public schools Spanish language

Unless of course your agenda is to make a political point.

Then of course deny the Spanish speaking children a good education. You'll have made your point and our country will have some more low wage, drug using, unhappy people without an education to fill up our prisons.

The right always has such great ideas.

LOL!!!!
