The George W Bush Sewage Plant

After the elections in November, San Francisco could have a fitting memorial for our outgoing President. They will be voting on whether to name the Sewage treatment plant after him.

San Francisco to vote on naming sewer after George Bush

Some presidents get carved into Mt Rushmore; others have airports, motorways, and even entire cities named in their honour. But when George Bush leaves office, his most visible memorial may be a mouldering patch of human effluent.

In November, alongside casting their ballot for the next president, the people of San Francisco will also vote on a measure to rename one of the city's largest sewage works the George W Bush Sewage Plant, to provide a "fitting monument" to the outgoing commander-in-chief's achievements.

Activists from the Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco, a mischievously-named group behind the move, will ask supporters to participate in a "synchronised flush".

It may sound like a student prank, but the proposal is almost certain to be passed. Democrats usually secure between 70 and 80 per cent of the vote in San Francisco – and in 2006 passed a proposition to impeach Mr Bush and his Vice-President Dick Cheney by a majority of almost two to one.

"In 50 years from now, we want people to see George Bush's name on that plant, and ask each other what went wrong," said Brian McConnell, the Memorial Commission's organiser. "We want them to be reminded of the Iraq war, and his other dramatic mistakes, and this is the perfect way to do it."

I can't decide whether I admire San Francisco more, or Vermont. Some towns in Vermont passed a law that if Bush or Cheney step foot there, they will be immediately arrested for war crimes. I love this country!

These types of topics bring the quality here down. Brava, Sam. Brava. There goes the neighborhood.

Cui honorem, honorem. I can understand most american citizens feelings for the administration that betrayed them, yet I don't know yet if a little more respect for the office of the president itsself wouldn't be appropriate.

I also love this country, that when things like this happen, we dont haul the perpetrators off and have them shot. Freedom is a wonderful thing, and you are entitled to be as immature as youd like.

I'm surpsingly impressed by your post there.

Don't worry about VL, she's just annoyed that San Francisco is the biggest sewage plant in the country.

I'll admit, it is pretty funny. OTOH, I have to agree with mabus - perhaps a bit more respect is in order. I'm sure liberals wouldn't appreciate a sewage treatment plant being named after Bill Clinton.

Almost appropriate in a sense. Dubya did have to make something positive out of all the sewage he was left with.

Re: The George W Bush Sewage Plant

Just goes to show you the deplorable level to which political discourse in our country has sunk.

It's pathetic that SF would even consider this, and even worse that partisan cheerleaders would rah-rah for it.

well that didn't take long now did it??

this is symptomatic of the lunacy of the whacked cracked left in place there, and another wondrous example of informed difference, diversity and tolerance from the belly of the beast, the San Francisco Oblast.

And, why though I live an hour away, I have not and will not visit the place
( once since 1992, and that was 5 years ago), not one dime to be spent within its environs, not from me.

I won't lower myself and suggest a new name for say the Mustang ranch after a previous c in c....naaahhhh...

There was a time when people actually showed respect for the office of President...they may not like the sitting President but at least they showed a little respect. Sadly, that's not the case anymore....

There's a reason the rest of the country refers to California as "granola" or "the land of the nuts, fruits and flakes"....

Am I the only one to think that sewage treatment is a very important thing?

Re: The George W Bush Sewage Plant

The problem is, curing the sewage in San Fran is difficult; they claim its offensive and not politically correct to brandish them as "diseased"...
