Texas to ban transfats

Wow, didnt think it would ever happen in Texas. Apparently people are no longer responsible for what they eat. We need govt to tell us what is and istn good for us. Whats next? No caffeine, no alcohol, no meat? All of these things are not harmful to you if ingested in moderation. Same with transfats. Im betting this is just one more step to the FDA banning it.

Texas bills would ban restaurant trans fats - BusinessWeek

Trans-fats are even bad in moderation. They remain in the blood stream for a long time, it is well established that they cause coronary heart disease, and provide absolutely no health (or flavor) benefits.

Why would anyone care if there is a ban on transfats?

I think people are more concerned about the principal of the whole thing, rather than the transfats specifically.

Be careful, that's what everyone said about a smoking ban in Virginia.

I can only imagine the lynch mob after the banning of things like chicken fried steak, BBQ, etc. It ain't gonna happen here.

because this is just what the government will be doing if they take over health care......get used to it, anything they think might undercut their bottom line or the nanny sates advisors think we should be doing without, with not one word from us....it will come, OR better yet they will make people pay into the system if they engage in "unhealthy" behavior, or move you to the back of the line once they start “managing” care, as they inevitably will have too.......mark my words.

In addition I choose to eat foods enhanced with transfats that enhances the flavor of the food. That’s MY bus. not the governments.

Further, I find it interesting they DON'T ban tobacco, yet will do this to transfats...anyone wanna guess why?

Are they also worried about the ban on thujone? How about raw milk? Horse meat? Heroine?

I guess im confused about a principle that makes them care about such things that really cannot detract in any way from their quality, convenience, or enjoyment of life.

Lots of folks just don't like the idea of the government saying what you can and cannot eat. As someone who advocates the decriminalization of marijuana, I can understand where they're coming from.

It's not that people are going to miss transfats or that they're huge fans of transfats, it's that they don't want the government acting as a nanny. We should be able to make our own decisions, even if some of them are bad decisions.

Transfats do not enhance the flavor of food.

Im still confused as to why anybody would care more about a ban on transfats than say a ban on certain ppm of thujone in absinthe?

A tabacco ban is coming. Just wait. Im a smoker and i fully support a ban on the sale of tobacco. If i still want to smoke i can grow my own, or just quit.

Don’t worry, once the government figures a way to make money off transfats the tide will turn.....

But why would they want corporations experimenting with chemicals on civilian populations???

Re: Texas to ban transfats

Legislation like this used to come from insurance industry lobbyists, but now that the US govt is about to become the largest health ins company in the world, they will undoubtedly be planning on telling us what we can and cannot put in our bodies.
Just like seat belts and iar bags.............those laws came from ins co lobbyists, not because our govt doesn't want to see us splattered on a dashboard.

Fuck a buncha Obamacare.

Yes. I'm a big fan of potato chips, and they no longer have any transfats (the canadian brands). I honestly do not notice any difference whatsoever. In fact i enjoy them even more knowing that they don't use transfats.
