If that's the reason, you should be more afraid of Wyoming. We're not even in the top half of "gun owners" based on per capita.

Them toting guns isn't going to make me fear them. And it certainly isn't going to make me respect them.

You specifically responded to the question "Why should we fear the Texans" with that answer.

Perhaps if you'd actually bother reading what you write?

I don't think he'll go that far, he just mentions it every now and then to get his cheerleaders fired up. We love our state, but most of us not enough to get shot.

Re: Texas Governor

Well, I wanted to start a thread about Texas Politics, guess I got hijacked. The comments are interesting and funny. I actually live in a suburb, rather diverse I might add, and I can't remember the last time I saw someone carrying a firearm. I do own a shotgun (in spite of false reports liberals do hunt) and a rifle my father brought back from WW2.

The talk about seccession is just BS, Perry trying to fire up his base. I know Cari lives here, but the point was to discuss the next governor. I guess that's boring. I will say that Texas may in fact turn blue. It will be an interesting political season in Texas in 2010.

There's just not too much going on right now, I think when KBH leaves her Senate seat to spend all her time campaigning, that's when it'll really start. It kinda depends what happens with Medina. If she can make a strong showing, KBH will definitely be the nominee.

I'm not sure KBH has it in the bag if she gets the nod, I think it's still too early, but we won't have to wait much longer.

Sorry to hijack your thread.

Poor choice of words on my behalf. Your comments are interesting and entertaining. What do you think of the Dems? I think it'll be Bill White, a much stronger canidate the Bell was. I could be wrong, but I think the Reps are gonna cut each other to pieces. KBH is at least nominally pro choice, which could be her doom in the primary, but would help her in the general. In the general I think KBH would be close to unbeatable, but Bill White against Perry could turn the state blue. We shall see.

Re: Texas Governor

I think it would be very interesting if y'all elected a Democrat governor. It would certainly shake some perceptions!

Why didn't these so called Texans rise up and stop people from abusing eminent domain laws when the Texas Rangers new stadium was being built? Sounds like Texans are a bunch of loud mouth cowards who are only capable of shooting children.

It's a win/win for Texas Democrats, either we'll get a Democratic governor or we will at the least competent state government.

The Republican primary looks to be a nasty one. Can't wait. I'm no fan of Kay Bailey, but I think she has been underestimated. If McCain picked her the election would've been much closer.
Texas monthly magazine is also predicting a nasty race between the two.

Perry lost a lot of fans with his pushing of the Mexico-Canada trans corridor which would reselt in the largest land grab in Texas' history. (After he promised to protect us from eminent domain) Think Texans like their guns and rights? Talk to them about taking their land.
Perry and Bush came out of the same mold, neither are conservatives (IMO) The republican party in Texas is at risk, Kay BH wants to try to dust off the Reagan "big tent" (according to her).
Texas' elected republican "leaders" seem to have absolutely no interest in party building. Once again (IMO) Perry is more interested in the smoke filled room deals, KBH? I haven't her followed her show close enough to make a guesstimate.

Re: Texas Governor

Any chance the dems pick up some seats in the legislature this time around? Or has the gerrymandering of the last few years taken care of that forever?
