Talk about regressive, where are the libs in the Cali leg. now?

California to withhold a bigger chunk of paychecks

Starting Sunday, cash-strapped California will dig deeper into the pocketbooks of wage earners — holding back 10% more than it already does in state income taxes just as the biggest shopping season of the year kicks into gear.

Technically, it’s not a tax increase, even though it may feel like one when your next paycheck arrives. As part of a bundle of budget patches adopted in the summer, the state is taking more money now in withholding, even though workers’ annual tax bills won’t change.

Think of it as a forced, interest-free loan: You’ll be repaid any extra withholding in April. Those who would receive a refund anyway will receive a larger one, and those who owe taxes will owe less.

But with rising gas costs, depressed home prices and double-digit unemployment, the state’s added reach into residents’ regular paycheck isn’t sitting well with many.

What we put up with in the state never ceases to amaze me. They're really tightening up our tax laws to squeeze blood from a stone. You ought to take a look at what's goning on the UC system over this.

Thanks for bringing up the subject.

SO, both states are in similar situations.

The key word is "LIBERAL" NOT Illinois or California.

Connect the fucking dots.

California bankrupt shit hole, liberal run.

Illinois verge of bankrupt shit hole, liberal run.

Don't worry, I hate Illinois just as much as shitty California.

That's never going to happen.

The government has a lot invested in their war against drugs. They aren't going to just "legalize" drugs and end up looking like hypocrites.

Furthermore the government brings in epic amounts of revenue because of drugs.

Drugs are crime and crime pays off handsomely for the government. Crime is its own industry, they wont legalize dope, never going to happen.

This is one of those issues that prove the government isn't looking out for the peoples best interests. This country would be a lot safer if drugs were legalized because it would take the sales out of the hands of the gangbangers and criminals, but they aren't interested in that because the government makes more money off these criminals then they would via any sort of tax revenue from drugs.

This is the kind of theft we have always had to deal with when Republicans are in charge. Once we vote out the Republicans then things will finally change.

Well, given the balance of power in the state of California, that has to be in the running for the most stupid thing I've seen posted in a while.

Speaking of stupid things said, is the governor who signed off on this a Republican or a Democrat? Answer the question.

Is the California State Supreme Court dominated by Democrats or Republicans? Answer the question.

Again: which liberals, and in which positions?

Please understand that the above is a rhetorical question, as I already know you don't know the answer.

I have to weigh in here too- we have a MAJOR RHINO as gov. ,we have a dem leg. and thankfully we have just enough republican legs. to keep the dems from having a 2/3's edge which would allow them to raise taxes every darn time they choose, which has been tried several times in the last 14 months especially of pain.

Really?... I mean... REALLY? What kind of mental contortions did you have to go through to get that out of your mouth?

The (D) to (R) ratio is 49 to 29 in the Assembly with 1 independent and 1 vacancy, and 25 to 15 in the Senate. Even assuming Ahnold was inclined to veto something they passed (and he rarely is as far as I can tell), they have enough votes to override his veto if they can pick off one or two Republicans in the Senate. California's Democratic leadership have more than enough power to do whatever the hell they want, more or less.

Yeah. The governor signed off on it. Guess which side came up with and put foreword the idea? Go on. Guess.

And as for the court, they aren't even involved. The composition of the SCOTSOC is irrelevant in this discussion.

Christ. Republicans didn't stop the Democrats from doing something stupid, so of course it's all their fault.

So what you're saying is that Republicans are cowards who can't be bothered to even try and resist. Thanks. I always knew it but it's good to see my p.o.v. reaffirmed by righties.

Republicans can't challenge these laws? Oh right you've already indirectly acknowledged that Republicans are cowards, so I'm not surprised that you'd indirectly acknowledge that Republicans are lazy too.

So your P.O.V. is that its the job of the Republican party to make sure the Democrat party doesn't do stupid shit? Republicans are to Democrats as psychiatrists are to lunatics? Interesting. I never thought I'd see you agree with Swoop.

How does this reconcile with the popular image of the Democrats being the only ones smart enough to get it right?
