    California decides to help itself to an interest free loan via its citizens

    You have got to be effing kidding me....if I underestimate my cali tax by more than 5%, that is I add extra exemptions and at the end of the year I owe more than 5% of the estimated tax, I get hit with a fine....BUT they now have decided to take an extra 10% for my state taxes from my check and I will see it back when I file in 2010..... this is highway robbery, I cannot believe this is even legal absent a ratified tax increase.

    Talk about regressive, where are the libs in the Cali leg. now? :rolleyes:

    California to withhold a bigger chunk of paychecks

    Starting Sunday, cash-strapped California will dig deeper into the pocketbooks of wage earners — holding back 10% more than it already does in state income taxes just as the biggest shopping season of the year kicks into gear.

    Technically, it’s not a tax increase, even though it may feel like one when your next paycheck arrives. As part of a bundle of budget patches adopted in the summer, the state is taking more money now in withholding, even though workers’ annual tax bills won’t change.

    Think of it as a forced, interest-free loan: You’ll be repaid any extra withholding in April. Those who would receive a refund anyway will receive a larger one, and those who owe taxes will owe less.

    But with rising gas costs, depressed home prices and double-digit unemployment, the state’s added reach into residents’ regular paycheck isn’t sitting well with many.

    how typical of liberals.

    You would think they would cut back on spending?

    Yet these liberal morons insist they know better then all of us and these bastards want to take their way of thinking to the federal level.

    Astounding.

    I wonder if you have to fill out something specific to get that money back. If you just fill out your forms normally, would you not get it back? How many people even notice or know what's going on? The state might not have to pay back all of the loan, if this is the case.

    I think we should legalize drugs and create a recreational drug category. We can achieve much the same amount in more market friendly sales taxes.

    Loans accrue interest. This is not a loan.

    If a state government wants a loan they can go to a bank(or more probably several, given the likely size) like anyone else. Except, of course, that would mean they would be forced to actually pay it back in some kind of timely fashion (I lay ten to one odds that they pass a tax hike for next year that takes it all back anyway). Typical authoritarian tactics.

    Surprise, the gang with the most guns and the willingness to use them gets to take what it wants. Don't think it's all about force of arms, don't pay your taxes and I assure you at some point men with guns will be involved in sorting the matter out.

    Republican =/= Conservative

    Democrat =/= Liberal

    Teddy Roosevelt was a republican too, y'know.

    Yet another example of liberalism in government doing that which liberals would excoriate any private sector entity for doing.
