The responses never left. It is an announcement that shows up in all forums and Malvolio was also kind enough to create a sticky in the Welcome / News & Announcements section that is open for discussion. There is also a closed sticky in this section.

Simply calling someone a 'liar' is pretty confrontational and from what we've seen, is usually the beginning of the end for a decent thread.

It's not that big of a change. Most of the people on this board don't go around accusing others of lying, they go the route I outlined above.
I don't appreciate someone calling me a 'liar' and will call them on it. I may makes mistakes but I don't intentionally lie and I think most are the same way. But there's always a few self-righteous idiots that throw in that "You're lying" or "Liar" just to upset someone.
I do love Kinetic's way of telling someone their mistaken...."You're factually incorrect"!!!!!

Re: Policy on accusations of lying?

I wonder how certain people are now gonna deal and manage to formulate any sort of a point without being able to just brashly brandish half the country as a liar...

New forum rule preventing us from calling a liar, a liar.

I would like to request a new rule to go with the other new rule.

Otherwise, what should a poster do when being lied about?

Re: New forum rule preventing us from calling a liar, a liar.

Be mature? Present a reasoned refutation of the claim?

I know it's harder than just calling someone a lair, but there it is.

Matt

Well I don't want to call him a lair, I don't think he is one. I want to call him a liar, which is what he is.

How do you propose I prove that I have respect for the US and it's military? Is there a link I can find that will prove that? Is there a news story about how Samantha is a patriotic American?

How about being a moderator who enforces the forum rules, Matt?

Quote:
FORUM RULES:

1. Freedom of Expression and Respect

First, is the free exchange of ideas. This is something that I believe strongly in and why I started the site in the first place. Following are some simple guidelines:

The most effective political discussion involves the exchange of ideas and concepts, as well as the critiquing of other people's ideas.

It does not involve personal insults and attacks!
You'd rather I try to prove that his personal insult and attack is not true instead of you doing the dirty work of enforcing forum rules?

I alerted the insult post and my reply last night and again today, but got no response. I asked for advise on how to handle being lied about and insulted and - silence. So I made this thread.

And you tell me to refute his insult so you don't have to moderate.

Beautiful.

Hmmm. Didn't you just complain about my putting words in your mouth?

Now you make this declaration.

Hypocrisy, or lack of short term memory?

As for his post, you may not like his opinion but I do not see that it is a violation of the forum rules.

Please cite the forum rule you feel was violated? And kindly demonstrate how his post is any different than your declaration of other members as "loyalists"?

Matt

I quoted it above.

I see you've added some of your own personal insults.

Fine job Matt.

Re: New forum rule preventing us from calling a liar, a liar.

I think it's silly to allow a stranger on a public, Internet forum to ruffle your feathers. If someone says something false about me ... trust me, I don't lose any sleep ...

People will regard or disregard the comment based on your reputation.

There is a definition of a loyalist and a definition of a patriot. There are websites I've linked to that describe the difference.

How does that relate to being insulted with having no respect for the U.S. or its military?

Let's stick to the subject here Matt.
