Re: A music forum

Anyone read how Kurt Cobain is now the most 'profitable' dead celebrity, surpassing Elvis by about $5 million or so?

The crown has been passed, Elvis. And it's about damn time.

(not to derail the thread, but just an idea of things we could discuss in such a forum)

I'm suprised. I'm sure people still buy their old albums but they only had three plus a b-side album and a greatest hit's compilation. Much of that still probably comes from merchandise. I love Nirvana but I hate it when people try to say Kurt didn't want to be famous. You don't make videos, play live on SNL, the VMAs, unplugged, and do tons of magazine interviews if you do not want to be famous. That being said he was a great songwriter and two of their albums are 5 star in my opinion.

Yea, they're quite possibly my favorite band ever and their music has a lot of sentimental value to me. So, of course I'm happy to see their continued success, even 12 years after Kurt's unfortunate demise.

And Kurt totally wanted to be famous, I agree (and I have read so in some Kurt Cobain biographies). But the 'not wanting to be famous' myth is, I think, a huge factor in him being such an icon.

I do think there is a huge difference between not wanting to be famous and not wanting to be a 'spokesman' for a generation, though.

Yeah i was gonna suggest something similar, something that includes everything from CD's and DVD's to films and T.V. shows, but that would probably require a whole forum, not just an off shoot one.

I agree, Nirvana's one of the best bands ever. Kurt was a genius. RIP.

Oddly, I really did not like Nirvana originally. As I have gotten older though, the more I seem to like them. I can tell a similar story about Alice in Chains. Never could understand why I felt this way...

I didn't like anything but the Grateful Dead for years, then when they went away, RIP Jerry I started like other music. Now I love lots of different stuff.

Re: A music forum

Actually, I didn't really get into The Dead until after high school. My biggest bands then were probably either The Doors or Pink Floyd, both of whom I still think are great!

I love Pink Floyd. They are a very rare breed in that they where much more focused on music rather than image yet still managed to gain huge popularity. Wish You Where Here is one of my top five favorate albums of all time.
