So Rick, how did your mispelling of guilty (you had quilty) get changed in your post and my post with a quote of your post (see #7)? Do you know?

Are the mods playing strange petty dishonest games with editing so that my joke about quilty looks like I just mispelled the word and Rick Blaine spelled it correctly?

Rick can edit his own post up to a point in time, but he can't edit my post with his quote in it.

Will the mod or admin who did this explain that edit?

Doesn't an edited post usually have "last edited by...."? I don't see that in Rick's post.

I know. That's what's so fucked up. It's a sneaky edit. I was making a joke about gays quilting because Rick spelled guilty with a q by mistake. But some mod or admin changed it and now my joke looks just stupid.

This is a false accusation that Samantha is leveling

Since Sam has elected to falsely accuse the site staff in public, I am forced to respond in a limited way to clarify the point and provide the truth. Had Sam simply done this via private message (she sent one, but then posted this openly), this would not have been necessary.

The forum software logs every moderation action. If I make a change to a thread, it is logged.

The moderation log for this thread shows 2 entries:

1. Drgoodtrips merged the thread with another thread.
2. I deleted and restored the thread (to make sure the log was working).

The forum software places a note in an edited post - but if the original poster makes a change in a short span of time (within a few minutes) of posting, no such notation is made. Any user can test this themselves - make a post, then edit it immediately. No "edited by" appears.

The quotation system works by pulling a copy of the post from the database when you push the button. This is an important concept. If you are reading a post when it is edited, you don't see the changes until you refresh your browser screen, or leave the thread and return. But if you hit "quote", you will get a copy of the edited version of the post.

Any user can test this for themselves as well. Just create a post, and then open a second browser window or tab and read it. Leave it open in the second window, and go back to the first window and edit it. Do this within a couple minutes of posting. Then, go back to the second window. Notice that the old version is still there. Now, click "quote". See the new text appear.

All without any sinister, evil, sneaky moderator plot!!!! Amazing!

Matt

Re: Accusation of mods editing threads (split from exisiting thread)

Since I am included in this broad brush allegation Sam, let me make the following very very very clear:

1) I have better things to do than pull what you claim

2) Being one of the worst typists on the board who is always editing out my typos after I post, I have enough problems catching my own typos in spelling and tense errors to catch something so small.

3) Changing 'guilty' to 'quilty' is something that wouldn't even appear to me as part of my sense of humour

4) If I had any malice to tamper with posts, I could pick something far more effective than this thing

Moreover, it has been explained to you why what you allege is impossible and what did happen was either a typo or a change by the poster within one minute before the edit line appeared. Every admin and mod would be able to see any changes by us, so we would all have to be in on this game anyway.

But the matter is alot more serious than that by your own choices:

1) If you really had a concern, you should have raised this via PMs--NOT IN PUBLIC. You know that from prior issues to be the rule and the case and you have done this directly knowing you are breaking forum rules doing so. This is a serious board infraction. You decided to make a public scene and allegations in public on a public trashing of the whole team.

The only reason this thread was created apparently was for the rest of the squad to defend their reputations from libel, the libel of which would have been furthered had they simply deleted the material without rebuttal. That has been done, and yet you want to continue firing shots and innuendo, which leads to

2) You did so to accuse the entire admin and mod team and 'call them out' and are baiting others with allegations and innuendo even beyond this allegation. This is another series of infractions.

I am going to remove all the extra baitings and innuendo in all posts not relevant to the part rebutting your initial claim and close this thread.

This will not be tolerated and your very serious misconduct now will be handled accordingly as it deserves to be.

Re: Accusation of mods editing threads (split from exisiting thread)

UPDATE: Yesterday, I had PMed Rick Blaine asking him if he edited his post. He logged in today and replied back that he had indeed edited his post right after posting it when he saw his mistake. Everything had happened exactly as Matt suggested.
