Problem reading my PMs

I can't read my private messages!

It just tells me: "database error".

Is it a problem with the forum PM system, or is it just my computer?

Stupid computers!

Please help!

Good, so it's not just me!

I guess we'll just have to wait for a kind moderator to come along and help us.

Re: Problem reading my PMs

changing domains can be a major headache, I went through it before.

And - if I am correct, we are now operating on a modified V Bulletin?

Why do people need to constantly modify and upgrade things all the time?

If something works, why fix it?

Re: Problem reading my PMs

The PM problem had nothing to do with changing domains.

Absolutely nothing with respect to the forum or the software running changed during the changeover. What do you mean by a modified vB? There are some modules installed, but they have been installed for quite a while. Most vB's are modified in this manner.

Thanks.

I mean some mods have mentioned trying different things...they mentioned possibly trying out some hacks..which I interpret as a modification of the original system since "hack" for most people means something bad.
I am not experienced with forum software whatsoever, but it is software - and making changes always causes unforseen problems...thats all.

Re: Problem reading my PMs

Okay.

There are some hacks already installed on this system. All a hack means in this context is a code and/or template modification. The chat system is a hack as is the "who's been here today" feature. The old AWS (Advanced Warning System) was a major hack as well, which is the reason why I didn't continue with it at the time since it makes upgrades more difficult.

However, what they are referring to is the old AWS...implementing it again. It was a good hack that had a lot of features for board moderation. Another hack that will likely be installed in the next week or so is one to limit new members from starting more than 3 threads in a week. I believe there is a hack for this already.

Before installing any hack I read through the posts at the place for hacks... vbulletin.org If people are having a lot of problems with them, including server load issues, then the hack will not be installed. Trust me, I don't need more headaches. I have been working on this site almost all day yesterday and Wednesday...but most people here would notice as it was on the forum archives site. Anyway, I try not to install the "latest and greatest," unless it has proven efficacy elsewhere. I like to let the other forums out there be the test dummies.
