Multi-Quote?

I've been wondering if there is any way to quote a post, and have it show up in it's entirety along with the previous post that the poster replied to (which would show in his reply).

I've played around with it a lot, but the quote feature simply quotes what the last person said, period. And the multi-quote just quotes multiple posts, not everything on the posts.

For instance, suppose there were two posts.

** post B **

(here, a third person lets say Person III replies to the above post by ABC)

I agree with ABC.

This works fine if one manually enters in the 'quote' tags and copies and pastes from previous posts, however, that gets to be tedious for long posts/threads where multiple posters are responding. Basically, what I am asking is there any way to do it automatically? The multi-quote button appears not to work for this purpose.

Also, another thing I've noticed is that it automatically works in private messages.

(note: Not sure if this is an inbuilt BBS feature - most of the old boards like PhpBB2 automatically multi-quote).

All input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rahul

Thanks ... It would help to not have to manually quote, copy and paste in those ever so lengthy posts!

Re: Multi-Quote?

Okay...from the vBulletin website:

Quote:
Multi-Quote
The much-requested multi-quote feature allows users to tag multiple posts that they wish to respond to by clicking a small button on each post. Once the user clicks the reply button, each tagged post is quoted.

To increase usability, by default, only posts within the current thread are automatically quoted. If you wish to quote posts in other threads with multi-quote, you simply need to click a link on the reply page, and the text of those posts will be added without a reload.

Re: Multi-Quote?

You click the multi-quote button on each post you wish to tag. When you tag the post the button will change to . You then hit the quote button and all tagged posts will appear in your text box.

Wow that's cool!!! Thanks Crystal!

Also - I like the new feature that lets you paste a link and the link shows up as the text that it's named. That's excellent too.

Crystal,

Thanks a lot for taking the time to look. However, unfortunately, that wasn't what I was asking ... I know the multiquote lines up quotes. However, how would I get it to show up in the style I described above?

That "style" was: -

The reason I ask is that this style neatly presents the posts as they were made, and it's much easier to keep up. Older versions of Nuke, and even MDPRO have this feature enabled in the regular "quote" button, but not VBulletin apparently.

Anyway, thanks a lot for looking though!!

Cheers,
Rahul

Quotes inside of quotes is something you will have to do manually.

Re: Multi-Quote?

I just realized what you mean though rahul. When you are quoting someone and you want to include the quote that they quoted, it's harder to do as the quote that they quoted might be much farther up in the thread and hard to find. So you're actually asking for something other than quoting a few posts in a row, you're asking for quoting a quote!
