Site navigation

I think the site navigation is a place where this site could be improved.

I mean you guys have a "Forum Jump" dropdown menu. But that seems to be carefully hidden at the bottom.

Someone cannot just click on the proper forum for their posts without going there. I mean, for me personally, I'm not here to go search for the right place to put a thread, I'm here to discuss issues. I suspect that many others would agree with my sentiments.

Perhaps if the dropdown menu was augmented by having links to the rest of the basically ignored parts of this site in a small "frame"(? not sure if thats the right term) on all the forum pages it would help foster much more discussion in those neglected areas.

What I am saying is that I know the Mods do their best to move threads to the appropriate place, (and they probably get paid little or nothing for doing this chore) but I think it's possible that much of this may be avoided by simply making it more convenient for the users to put their thread in the right place in the first place.

Thus no need to move them.

I mean I've seen these "crackdowns" where a mod seems to get sick of shit being in the wrong place and starts going on a rampage to move multiple threads to the appropriate category.

But alas, it does no good. Many other similar threads quickly replace the moved threads almost like a hydra. Chop off one head and 2 more suddenly appear. It does no good to attack the symptoms and ignore the disease.

I think the disease may be an inconvenient site navigation system.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to slam you guys or anything, I like this site. This is just meant to be constructive criticism.

I'd be interested in what other forumers think about this subject.

Discuss.

I personally think the site is laid out fine and pretty easy to navigate. I know threads sometimes end up in wrong categories, but I believe that's more due to people being careless and posting in the wrong forum. Otherwise, the forums are clearly labeled and descriptions are given ... it's all pretty self explanatory. And personally, I've never once used the 'drop down' menu.

With regard to being here to post, and not search - I don't think it takes too much time to find the right forum, but thats just me ...
