I suspect they're not there to try and screw money out of me (sorry, won't work!) but their absence makes the forums almost unusable. Which is a shame because there are good topics and good posters and the site zips along. Any chance of a change of management policy? Or would it hit you in the pocket with unacceptable force?
You can get a fair idea of what's gone down by way of the previous topics list. That goes back to Bush's first erection, I think, when he was about 38.

Most internal forum search engines, if you can find them, function like your average Congessman. You cross its palm with silver and wait for it to tell you that there aren't any results.

Good luck.

Good one.

Re: Any chance of 'search' and 'recent posts' features?

Thanks for the replies guys. Sorry to have annoyed pramjockey. I said some (sincerely meant) nice things about the site too so I don’t know why he’s wetting his knickers.

It’s obvious that ‘screwing money out of me’ is the motive so why shouldn’t I tell the truth? Why, otherwise, are two standard vbulletin features – the recent posts and search facilities - disabled? It’s to screw money out of me! Nothing wrong with that. The site must pay it’s bills to provide the excellent service it does. So tell me, pramjockey: why should I self-censor on this subject? And why should these features remain unavailable ‘especially’ if I tell the truth? LOL

If I'm not mistaken, you can get a free trial membership just by joining the Community Challenge - Essay Contest.

And the winner of the contest receives a free membership for a year.

So that's probably the most cost-efficient way to get the 'search' and 'new posts' features without parting with any cold hard cash.

Oh, I'm not annoyed.

The thought that you're potentially being screwed indicates that there's some sort of ill intent on Marc's part, or that somehow he has an obligation to pay for a website that you choose to use for free, and that he's obligated to do with said website whatever you ask of him. Clearly neither of those are the case.

At the bottom of every forum there's the option to scroll through all previous pages . E.g.;
http://www.uspoliticsonline.com/war-peace/

Not an ideal 'search' method but better than now't, as they say . I figure that most extreme Rightists can't remember anything further back than page 4 so it's generally safe to re-introduce any previous topic that you feel wasn't adequately explored. At worst it fills them with a sense of deja-vu, perhaps misinterpreted as a form of religious experience, and makes them psychologically susceptible to beneficial suggestion.

Lol.

This is a very enjoyable site, even without a search facility, if you can work within the morphologies of its rules. Have fun. Welcome.

No <groan> it doesn't, and no <groan> I don't think there's "ill intent" on Marc's part. Why? Because I don't know who "Marc" is! Is he a manager here? In which case I wish to state, categorically, for the record, that I think Marc is wonderful: talented, sexy, a paragon of all the message board managerial virtues. OK?

No <groan> I don't think Marc - talented, sexy etc - is under such an obligation.

No <groan> I don't think Marc - talented, sexy etc - must do whatever I ask of him.

Yes. Indeed. <groan x 10,000>

Do you always go into unfriendly, unwelcoming, moralising, tedious, straw-man-creating fantasies whenever a new member ask a simple, non-threatening, non-critical and wholly reasonable question? If so, why?

You should be able to click on your name, and then select "find all posts by annakey".

Nope. That gap's been plugged too. They're really determined to make me pay!

Any more suggestions? All I really want to do is check my posts, see what replies (if any) there are, and answer them. It seems this may not be possible without paying.

Re: Any chance of 'search' and 'recent posts' features?

How about adding a point 4 to the announcement?

"You're a stingy b@stard who should put his hand in his pocket cos Marc's wonderful, talented, sexy, a paragon of all the message board managerial virtues and needs your cash!"

Re: Any chance of 'search' and 'recent posts' features?

I reckon I can do it via User CP > Subscribed threads. It's not perfect but at least it lands me on previous posts. Thanks for your help.
