Site not loading

For the past couple of days there has been a long delay in loading the site. Anybody else experiencing this ? It appears related to image loading and a particular Google ad. ( curse them to hell )
The same problem is occurring at other sites too.

Any cure forthcoming , oh tech bods ?

I think it is two different peices - both stat sites, googlestats and bigboards.com.
I have noticed it hanging while waiting on either of these two.

I haven't had a problem, myself (and yes, I do see ads, even though I'm a mod).

Might be a stupid question, but you haven't installed any internet security programs lately, have you?

Nothing other than AVG Pro updates. The message which appears, eventually, in place of the Google ad reads;

Error!
Could not connect to remote server

You tried to access the address http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com...=6&u_nmime=164, which is currently unavailable.

We're talking a delay in excess of a minute here, not just a slow load.

Hmmm...strange.

When I click that link, the google ad pops out without hesitation. I did a search on AVG pro and didn't find any reported problems with it working with google ads, so that's probably not the culprit.

Which internet browser are you using?

Opera, but there has never been a problem and I haven't made any changes nor updates. Hang on, I'll dust off IE 5 and see what happens.

Edit; Same story, so it's unlikely to be browser related. Hang on, I'll try a different machine.

Edit; Hmm, no problem on that one. I'll try a cookie refresh.

The only odd thing I noticed was last week (I think it was last week). For about a day, the site wouldn't load at all.

And, other that slow loading pages due to embedded videos, I don't have any problems in delays lately. I use IE (the latest version), if that helps any.

Thanks, but I wouldn't use IE if it was free. Lol. I'm strictly anti-monopolism.

Cookie refresh wasn't any help. It isn't USPOL specific, it isn't browser specific. It doesn't affect a machine running Win2K. Maybe it's a Win98SE problem . That's what fuels this old box . I can't test that though as I don't have another 98SE machine.

Nah, it can't be, I'm grasping at straws. Somebody get Marc to turn off the ads for a day for testing purposes. Lol.

Yes, and the free adblock add on for Firefox works well, too.

Anything simple that can block all those traffic analysis sites will do the job.

Marc had told the mod team a week or so ago that he is looking at getting some more RAM for the server or at least checking out the cost for it. Other then that, I have no idea. I'm sorry to hear some of you having an issue and I hope we can get it corrected ASAP.

And if that doesn't help people, the plot thickens.
It could be a firewall issue, a proxy issue, a naughty router ...
The problem for those that post from work is how to explain to their company's network admin the importance and relevancy of USPOL not loading fast enough.
