Thanks!
I'm looking through the other styles with VB, found a couple i like, trying to find Blue though...

Re: Style Feedback Sought!

Here's a few that i like:

Hallow green

Hallow Yellow

Hallow red

You're probably beginning to notice a bit of a patern! I think the Hallow Red is the one closest to the one here on the site i used, but dependant on bandwidth and size i think it looks better fluid than fixed. I assume you'd use both options though.

I like the yellow one.

Re: Style Feedback Sought!

I think there's a blue and Orange one too in that Hallow series, maybe the Hallow Blue one might be an idea?

They have a really good look to them but I don't know if they would fit with the site itself. This year we will probably have many newcomers with the election and all and it might help to make it look classy and attract serious debaters. That seems good but it might give a sort of teenager vibe.

Re: Style Feedback Sought!

A while ago i was thinking of suggesting a GOP and Dem skin but not sure if there is even one for VB.

But i agree, the bright colors maybe don't suit politics and political forums, they are much better for massachistic sadist pleasures that CT enjoys.

But the colors are good and the brightness too, but likeyou said, probably not appropriate, not for the defaul anyway. We already have one like that (the one i described) and seeing as one that Marc asked about was like that i thought it might work.

I don't know if I like that idea at all. That would make it seem like the site is divided into two teams and you are on one or the other and things just are not that black and white and I would hope we have more independent minded folks than that. I guess it's alright as an option given other choices.

Re: Style Feedback Sought!

Yeah i mean again it would just be additional too, but ironically in the last post i was gonna mention how appropriate it would be in this forum with all the frothing at the mouth from both the far right and radical left but just as a joke. It could attempt to disenchant independants though!

This site seems so much more partisan than the real world. Most people I know have a mixed view of things other than those that listen to talk radio or Keith Olberman. I would say that most older people I run into tend to be socially conservative and fiscally liberal while it seems to be somewhat the reverse with younger people. People that come into the restaurant that are older seem to think the world is going to hell in a hand basket and needs to be more like the good old days and younger people (mainly students) are longing for a move forward. Seniors see family values as what the good old days are like yet are against things like free trade. Most young people are not as leftist as most assume other than certain circles that are probably a minority around here but are more open minded to personal choices. This leaves both sides not completely fit into what we think of in this country as right and left. Personally I think that anybody that uses ideology or party affiliation to make up their mind rather than judging each issue on their own is really cutting the thinking process out.

Re: Style Feedback Sought!

Well then maybe that GOP/dem style can only be available in election years and every off cycle/odd numbered year everyone has to pretend to get along and actually be coming together to have a bi-partisan approach?

One other thing though is th banner would have to seem appropriate. The current style is very boring and bland imo and the colors of the banner don't really seem out of place but with a bright style it might do.

See that's the thing, with the format it doesn't exactly draw the younger generation in does it? We have pleanty of members and all but i know you've said you'd like to see more quality discussion from folks near you and maybe that's the problem, this doesn't appeal to enough folks the way it is?

Like the people you know who don't have much insight on this, well maybe they would be if the odd debate was in your area or the odd politician or two showed up or something...

This site does seem to draw older folks even though people typically people think of younger people as more internet savvy. Could be. It didn't really bother me when I joined but I was just looking for a discussion forum and this was one of the early things the search engine brought up. I was 25 then.

Re: Style Feedback Sought!

Well this is the only VB forum i have used for the most part, it has better features than PhpBB but i always went with PhPBB as a better choice for forum software simply because this forum looked a tad boring (no offense Marc) in its appearance. When WEB started his board up and asked for help and i looked at VB closer it made a lot more sense that it is far superior to PhPBB. strangely i even thought the clicking on licks system was better with PhPBB which i still think is better than VB.
