You have more patience than I do. In such a case, I'm likely to point out their lack of intellectual honesty. Someone who not only ignores valid points but goes "personal" on me can expect me to get personal right back.

Re: This is a discussion board, we should discuss things

it always seems to me on these boards that there is a thread like this started by people who usually are dishing out most of the borderline conduct, asking for everyone to just get along like rodney king or something

its actually comedic and funny , in the end this board hasnt changed in 5 years, except now dems are getting bashed for being fucked up and liberals on the board just cant handle it ( even though the dish they served for 8 years makes obama angst look pretty tame)

Well, actually, veiled personal insult is a way of life here, but TECHNICALLY it's a board violation.

And, yes, I've probably done it too, but I do try not to, and I just think it's getting out of hand
Welcome to USPOL, it's been that way for quite awhile.

What you're asking essentially would end up banning fools.

Fools will always be part of humanity as will the poor, the degenerate, the mentally ill etc. etc.

Diversity

.... there is the ignore function when you decide that some corners of "diversity" just aren't worth visiting or interacting with. It's the same as in any public place when you are choosy about who you might interact with unless forced to.

While the OP may have a good point, and I would be happy with being one of the three posters left here under that standard, I doubt the owners would keep paying the bills.

The other two posters know who you are.

Re: This is a discussion board, we should discuss things

It would be incredibly hard, if not impossible, to enforce a rule telling people to elaborate more in their posts. Sometimes the point can be made well with relatively few words. Sometimes a post will make perfect sense to some people, while others will desire more elaboration. There are only so many mods and tons of new posts a day, I just couldn't see such a thing happening.

The best thing to do is just ignore posters that you don't find very fun to debate with. While I can't put anyone on ignore since I'm a mod, I've become very good at passing by posts from particular posters because I know their reply will most likely be a waste of time. If a poster notices they're starting to get ignored, they're more likely to try a little harder to contribute and get recognized, from my experience (or sometimes they just troll harder, haha).

But maybe a long reply is beneath the poster.

Seriously, I've seen some silly shit posted here that warrants very little response. "Yes" or "no" suffices in such situations. Also, you need to, at the very least, allow for the possibility that someone is so stupid that they simply don't understand...

It's just kind of frustrating when you spend a good 15 minutes putting together several paragraphs to get a reply like "that's stupid" How are you supposed to reply, without knowing what the replying poster thinks is stupid and/or why?
I see, so it's all about you.

You pour your heart into a post, and someone thinks it's stupid, so they don't really expound on their reply, and you're "frustrated"? And now you want that to be a violation of some fantasy rule dancing around in your head?

Good luck with that...

Generally, if something is so stupid as to warrant no response I don't make any, unless the poster pm's me to ask WHY I haven't made any, or gleefully begins proclaiming to all and sundry the "victory" he thinks is indicated by my stunned silence that anyone could believe something so abysmallly idiotic as what he has just put forth. And yes, some posters on here are so stupid that it's a real challenge to make any sort of reply you think they will understand, but it's an interesting intellectual challenge to try

No you are.

As speakeasy stated, I just mentally ignore posters who don't actually make a point.

But if what you are proposing were made a rule, how would Tanngrisnir3 be able to participate?

I'm getting sick of discussing that with you. You refuse to listen to my opinion on the matter, so there is no point. Whatever dude.
