This is a discussion board, we should discuss things

I really think we ought to have a rule here that you HAVE to post some sort of REASON for saying something you say. I've seen this done TWICE in just one day now. Just saying "no it's not" or "you didn't understand what was said", and then NOTHING ELSE isn't DISCUSSION, it's a veiled personal insult and that's a board violation

Well, actually, veiled personal insult is a way of life here, but TECHNICALLY it's a board violation.

And, yes, I've probably done it too, but I do try not to, and I just think it's getting out of hand

A fine sentiment. Find explicit and concrete definitions for "reason" and "veiled personal insult" that everyone from every educational, ideological or national background and every level of intellectual ability can agree on and you'll be well on your way to making a perfect world. In the meatnime I've seen lots worse.

So if someone asks a question, and someone responds by answering "no", that's a veiled personal insult?

See, because reasonable people would probably see that as, you know, a response...

Some people here can only respond that way.

They wouldn't be able to post half of the time because then they would have to sell their case rather then just say "That is the stupidist thing I've ever witnessed".

Wow! You've seen it twice in one day??? OMG! That's horrible! Seriously, John, twice in one day out of how many posts????? And no, it's not a "veiled personal insult" nor a board violation to say "no, it's not" or "you didn't understand what was said"

I don't make veiled personal insults. When I insult someone, it's right out there in the open for all to see. That said, I try not to insult forum members, but since President azzole is not a member here, he's fair game.

No, and I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear that I'm dealing only with open-ended questions. If I'm asking, "Are you a Democrat?" then 'yes' or 'no', would be all that was expected or proper.

But if you respond to a long and detailed post asserting x to be a, whereas another poster has asserted x to be b with "obviously you didn't understand what was said" and NOTHING ELSE then you are implying that the replying poster was so stupid he couldn't see what you said, and that further explanations are somehow beneath you.

It's just kind of frustrating when you spend a good 15 minutes putting together several paragraphs to get a reply like "that's stupid" How are you supposed to reply, without knowing what the replying poster thinks is stupid and/or why?

Maybe later, if you really enjoy it, but right now we should stay on topic

Actually, I like most rich people. However, I do find several of the ones on this board are irritating to a fault.

I've always believed that those who most often trumpet their success and wealth or claim to be business owners on a msg board are probably clerks or data entry workers who once sold some old trading cards on ebay and consderr themselves entreprenuers being held back by liberal "punishment" and "confiscation".
I do sympathize with your point to some degree. It is irritating to spend time writing a post which explicitly and (IMO) clearly addresses the post you are responding to only to receive a bald restatement of the points you just refuted or a string of off subject declarations or a simple "you'll never get it". But it comes with the medium and like I said I've seen lots worse. Just learn to let the bozos roll off your back.

There is a point when you've hammered your point home in countless posts where you give up and say, "you'll never get it".
Or would some folks prefer, "Ignorant asshole!"

If I really feel another poster will never address my points I know it's probably better to just drop it and move on but sometimes I do say something more or less equivalent to "you'll never get it". But only after I've offered an explanation of why the other poster is not getting it and those explanations have been ignored.
