Re: Getting more members here...what you can do.

er........... I tried to post a smile but it says it was too short and not enough charactors.

So and Well here are my charactors.....there is a difference between how many members verses how many posting members. Locking down topics is also unacceptable in my opinion. But I, alas simply a clown troll so what do I know.

Well sure, but if you're pro-choice (like I am) then you accept the fact that those 2,000+ members (minus those who are currently banned for violating the rules) are free to choose to post, or to not post, as they wish. And I have no desire to attempt to force my will upon them by somehow forcing them to post!

If people want to post in these forums, then they post. If they don't want to post in these forums, then they don't. It's really not any more complicated than that.

And 2,000+ posters authorized to post is plenty, as far as I'm concerned.

Then there are those that simply do not see the point because of posters like you.

Something that you can do to get more members here is include a link to the forum in your signatures if you visit other discussion forums...assuming there are no restrictions against it at the other forums. I know many people frequent more than one discussion forum so it could help a lot.

I will continue doing what I can to increase the numbers here and would appreciate any help that the current members can offer.

Thanks again!
You really need to advertise the forum on popular sites like: The New York Times - Breaking News, World News & Multimedia or MSN.com (for instance).

It would indeed pay off in the long run.

Re: Getting more members here...what you can do.

I know this is not entirely pertinent to this thread, but why can I respond to posts but I cannot make a post of my own? Have I been banned or partially banned, or is there some sort of rule that new members cannot post? I am also posting this to see if I can still post a response to threads.

Re: Getting more members here...what you can do.

There's a new setting that prevents individuals from posting unless they have been members for 30 days and have 30 posts. You can also PM a moderator (i.e. Crystal) to discuss having that limitation removed.

It's an anti-spam mechanism.

Pay off how? Financially? I doubt that. Getting more people here? Probably. The site already runs at a loss...which I don't really care about, although some day it would be nice to get better ad things going on to break even at least.

Re: Getting more members here...what you can do.

Once I get some extra dough (if I get into a PhD program this will be several years down the road...lol) I will pay for some advertising. I have also thought about magazines too (i.e. The Nation, Wall Street Journal, etc.).

ah, we just changed it yesterday along with the updated rules and the new warning system. You registered prior to the changes and have already had the ability to start threads and I can't see taking that priviledge away. I'll have several accounts to adjust who are grandfathered in. If you need anything don't hesitate to send me a PM.
