Re: Getting more members here...what you can do.

ahoy mate!

imma trying to get members of me World of Warcraft guild to join up. some of them occasionally debate politics in our guild chat, and it often causes some confusion among our younger folks, and also make alot of our adult membership angry (politics and killing dragons, in fact, mix poorly).

maybe more pirates will be here at one point!

ahoyyyyy!

I would rather have fewer members in most cases.

Hey, if they're decent posters, it doesn't matter where they come from.

True, but the level and number of "decent" posters seem to be a smaller and smaller percentage of the overall board these days...

I was on the receiving end of this wrath when on my second or third post I was informed that I was immature ... among other things. This person likes the word immature because I have seen it as an adjective used to describe multiple posters. Had it not been for the more mature persons on this board I would have departed forthwith. I am not convinced that others had as much patience as I.

I am not suggesting any particular "thumb" to use, I just seems to me to be in the best interest of the board to reign the troll in.

Remember ... you asked for my opinion.

There are enough trollish types here that I am coming a lot less. There ARE plenty of other boards out there that do not allow baiting and insulting garbage.

That's because this has become sort of the "mosh pit" political forum.

Anything goes.

Decent posters can only take so much of it.

I just want to point out that Nox's post was written years ago and the resident troll he speaks of was banned long ago. I'm not suggesting that liberal4 wasn't replaced by some other troll, but we have cleaned some house, so to speak, over the last couple of weeks. No one seems to be missing them. I think the site is a bit more enjoyable.

You guys were rated #12 of the top 20 in 2007! I don't know how many folks visit Pollyticks, but it's some press .

20 Top Political Forums of 2007 » Pollyticks.com

20 Top Political Forums of 2007

If I'd known how addictive chatting in political forums could be, I would have started one on Pollyticks long ago, and if I had a nickel for every hour I've spent writing long-winded opinions to forum members on the Arab-Israeli conflict, Catholicism on the U.S. Supreme Court, or any number of other topics, I'd be a rich man! OK, not rich, but I'd have another $5.

What follows aren't complete reviews of these sites and everything each has to offer. These are only reviews of their community discussion forums. I tried to stick to sites running traditional forum software, like phpBB and vBulletin, as opposed to comment blogs, with a few exceptions here for notorious blogs like Daily Kos, Huffington Post and Free Republic. Here you'll find forums on the left, forums on the right, and forums in the middle.

Just FYI, the name of the forum is bold, with the link and review underneath. Thanks to everyone who took time to build forums and recruit members. Your efforts have helped foster debate….

12. U.S. Politics Online
Name Says it All
Membership: mixed
A traditional forum layout. Not much to say about this one. It's still small and doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside it's quaint and cozy, particularly if you're conservative, but even if you're not. Categories include all the basics, as well as colorful ones like War & Peace, The White House, Capitol Hill, State & Local Politics, Popular Crime Stories & Trials, and more. Site claims to have 4,334 members who've posted 968,496 times.
[Emphasis mine] Quaint and cozy...hmmm...rather like I'm in the comfy chair, waiting for the Spanish Inquisition. But this is good. It's comfy enough to keep you here but not too comfy that you are bored.

Good review, IMHO...and a link to boot.

OMG!! How cool is that and for some reason I'm reminded of the lyrics to "I Love This Bar"

*group hug*
