hmmm, i don't know 'bout getting more members here, but i think i have an idear how to keep the ones who venture here for the first time, and keep'm hooked and returning.

when someone who be new finally posts a response, or starts their own thread, the heavy hitters (you know who you are, mateys, YARRRR!) on the sight ought to give them a thoughtful response.

i don't think anything is engaging, or compelling, as the honest exchange of ideas and a meaningful dialogue.

i know this probably isn't a realistic response to this thread, and it won't result in a sudden avalanche of peoples jumpin' onboard, but it will gain ye loyal folks, one person at a time.

anyways, thems me thoughts.

The threads are too long. Makes it cumbersome to get up to speed if you're in late.
Also, there are some aggressive people here. I came in a while ago and left for that reason.

If you go to your User CP (control panel) to options then you can change the number of posts you see per page. The default is set to 10, but you can change it to 40. It makes a big difference in how long the thread seems.

Re: Getting more members here...what you can do.

If this forum changed name from uspoliticsonline.com to just uspolitics.com (think the name is available) it might get more attention?

The word online is completely unnecessary, since people know they are fucking online when they search, and its like totally 90s...

That's a good idea, but it looks like uspolitics.com is already taken.

A very good idea; just how long has this forum been here?

Hlw about forum raids, we jog over to another forum, steals it's members and then trap them here. In a cage. With dancing girls. And Blackjack. IN fact lets forget the raid...

Other than that advertising would be a good route, oh, and not jumping on a new posters back when they post their first post. WE need to reserve that for Mudwhistle.

I would have taken it if it were available. I got uspolitics.cc as a redirect directly to the forums for those that type it in, however.

Just thought I'd add that I joined today. I am always up for lively political discussions so I googled "political forum discussion" and this site was at the top of the list (you must be doing something right).

Re: Getting more members here...what you can do.

I have some suggestions to bring new blood in- I think that people want to post new topics- people come here with new ideas. It's probably very frustrating to have to post thirty times before being able to write them all down. I'm not saying that it needs to be eliminated- but I think that that is an excessively high number.

Do we have a facebook group? If not it wouldn't be a bad idea. Sure the guise of anonymity of who's a member is gone, but we don't have to share our screennames. It might get us some more visitors. Also, it would help to remind visitors to place this as their web address on other forms on their profiles.

I think that there are a great number of trolls here- this will always be the case with any site but they seem to be especially prolific here. What we get then is not debate but just flying insults and stereotypes (liberal bleeding heart subaru driver with a "war is not the answer sticker, shut the fuck up", someone posted earlier). I have heard a fair number of attacks the other way as well, but I don't think either side needs to insult the other- I think that if we tried listening more for ideas from each other rather than listening only to find fault and blast them that we could reach an actual consensus on some issues and maybe learn something from each other.

Thoughts? PM me if you're addressing them to this post, I'm not watching a sticky (a good way to end up with my inbox crammed full, no?)

Re: Getting more members here...what you can do.

Having to wait 30 days in order to start threads is way too long. There is a message to new people that says you can get that waived if requested. I requested and nothing happened. I got slapped down with another 30 day wait message.

In my case I have drifted over to other sights that offer more flexibility in this area. I'm sure I'm not alone in this. With some people it might make the difference whether to stick around and wait it out or to just move on. I think it would be better to give more reason to stick around. People like to belong to things. By giving more opportunity for interaction it might turn those passing through into actual fixtures.

One thing great about this site is the moderators are respectful. I like that.

It's a good thing to like

It hasn't always been that way. Mods are way better than they used to be. But, setting up a good mod team has to take a lot of time and hit a lot of bumps in the road I guess. I'm sure the mods could tell stories LOL Not that they will but ... you know...
