Religious Politics

I am trying to come up with a decent list of events where Religion was a part of politics. This is only a list of Post WWII events. I have a few but they are all negative, and i have done some research but i have not come up with much. But i want to find information where religion was a helping factor in politics. Some of the negative ones that i have so far is:

Israeli-Palestinian conflicts (Jew vs Muslim) '48-present
Iran-Iraq war (Sunni vs Shiite)
Cold War (Christian vs Atheist)??
Northern Ireland (Catholic vs. Protestant)
Bosnia conflict (Christian vs. Muslim)
Soviet ascension to power (Atheism vs. Eastern Orthodox)

Even neutral "conflicts" where religion was apart of the conflict but it makes no real difference. I think it could be classified as something like:

Soviet invasion of Afghanistan (Atheist vs. Muslim)- but there wasn't anything inherently religiously promoting it.

So im wondering if anyone can add to this list, or maybe comment on the list that i have with some facts.

Thanks all

The Cold War and the Soviet rise to power, along with AFG had little, if anything, to do with explicit, religious conflict

There's:
Kashmir
Sri Lanka
Rwanda
Sudan's Civil war
Cyprus
East Timor
Kosovo
Nigerian Muslims vs. Southern Christians
Chechnya

I could go on and on.

I think you'll have a problem there - for hundreds of years religion ruled politics.

No, there were three sides involved here - two forms of Christianity (Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox) and Islam.

That would be Bosnians, Serbs and Croatians but don't ask me which was which.........

Re: Religious Politics

The religious zealot Barak Obama said that human rights are a theological matter rather than a legal matter.

Could you point out just where he's done that?

Ah, so you actually have absolutely zero clue about what you're talking about. Here's what was actually said:

WARREN: That was a freebie. That was a gimme. That was a gimme, OK? Now, let’s deal with abortion; 40 million abortions since Roe v. Wade. As a pastor, I have to deal with this all of the time, all of the pain and all of the conflicts. I know this is a very complex issue. Forty million abortions, at what point does a baby get human rights, in your view?

OBAMA: Well, you know, I think that whether you’re looking at it from a theological perspective or a scientific perspective, answering that question with specificity, you know, is above my pay grade.

He also said, in the same interview:

So we want to manage this relationship and move them into the world community as a full partner, but we can’t purchase that by ignoring the very real prosecutions, persecutions that are taking place, and so having an administration that is speaking out, joining in international forums, where we can point out human rights abuses, and the absence of religious freedom, that, I think, is absolutely critical. Over time, what we are doing is setting up new norms and creating a universal principle that people’s faith and people’s beliefs have to be protected.

Game over. You lose.

Exactly. To Obama who is a longstanding member of some weird religious cult known as "Black liberation theology" human rights are not a legal issue. Apparently in his cult's view human rights are a theological issue that is above his "pay grade" whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean.

Can you say "religious nutjob"?

Actually yes, and i was simplifying. In case you don't remember, both Catholics and Eastern Orthodox are considered Christian.

And for peace of mind:

Croats- Cathloic
Serbs- Orthodox
Bosnians- Muslim

From a purlely scientific standpoint it is undeniable that an individual human being (person) is created at conception. Anyone who disagrees with that is simply an idiot who has no understanding of human biology whatsoever.

Obama is ignoring this scientific fact and trying to infuse his vague concept of when a person gets a "soul" according to his religious "faith" into policy because his God "called" him to do so.

Obama is a whacko religious nutjob.

First of all i want to stress that there is more info on religion in politics than arguing over this.

Second, Obama is quite moderate compared to most politicians, especially those from the "bible belt". Since you like to believe that Obama is a "religious nutjob" then you obviously don't know much about american politics.

Third, since citizenship is granted at birth (not before), human rights and legal recourse can then properly be executed. Therefore, human rights are obtained AFTER you are born and become a citizen of the USA.

Are you trying to suggest that only people who are citizens have rights in the USA?

If so, then you are wrong. Read the 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
