    Libya update

    from who else? foxnews.com......

NATO is reportedly bombing Libya leader Muammar al-Qaddafi's compound in Tripoli, pictured left, as Libya's government calls for a cease-fire between the rebels and government forces.
Does anyone else find this as funny as I do? The rebels are expected to take Tripoli by some accounts I heard on TV yesterday (no, I don't remember what all outlets I watched)

Um, guys???? Can we talk about this?
Take a good hard look, it's coming.

Well its in Fox's best interest to play down the Rebels, and coerce the US into getting involved in yet another "we need a 10 year occupation to get one guy" fiasco. As we learned with Egypt, these dictators are not invincible, and given time they can be overthrown without the Captain America swooping in to save the day.

Oh..........I see.............you thought this was about Fox, right?
How about you start your posts in this thread by justifying Obama's having entered the USA into this shit? Got something on that? I'd love to hear all about it.

    Re: Libya update

Last night "revolutionaries" indeed made an effort to take Tripoli. People were reporting firefights on the outskirts of the city.

They were supposed to be joined by a "popular rebelion" from within the city itself. It came to nothing. In fact we (groups in contact with Libya) were getting messages of people from all ends of Tripoli picking up their weapons and rushing to the outskirts to support the army.

But the sponsors of the "revolution" do need "victories". It means that they will have to come up with some other plan to beat Libyans, most likely --step up "boots on the ground". Or at least pretend to make progress for a PR campaign.

I love this footage from AP "Libya rebels close in on Gadhafi, seize a key town"

Libya Rebels Close in on Gadhafi, Seize Key Town - YouTube

Just to update the AP: the rebels did not "seize" the town, they did a bit of shooting before withdrawing; and the official mentioned in the report did not defect.
But! Just watch the film: on 0.15 the rebels are supposedly engaged in fighting, yet on the background we clearly see a small group of spectators that are calmly watching a "battle" in front of the camera!

True freedom can only be where there is no exploitation and opression of one person by another; where there is no unemployment, and where a person is not living in fear of losing his job, his home and his bread. Only in such a society personal and any other freedom can exist for real and not "on paper"." (Stalin)

    Re: Libya update

    Not quite.

Yes, an airbase was taken. Juornalists are reporting a few hundred of NATO SF and about 2 -3 thousands of rebels...

Obviously there was no "grateful civilians" lining up the roads.
The fighting continues. People think NATO will bomb a corridor for the "revolutionaries " and SF into the city.

    Will wait till tomorrow.

    Re: Libya update

BREAKING NEWS: Saif Al Islam Gaddafi and the other sons of Gaddafi are captured by the revolutionists. My God, these tyrants ruled Libya for over 40 years and the people have removed them in an armed revolution. Alot of people may think that the Transitional council will be pro western, that's a mistake. Basically, they used NATO to help them topple Gaddafi and then am sure they will keep cool diplomatic ties with Europe and the West. They are keen on building Libya but won't bend over to the West that's for sure and the west will not find much interests in Libya unless it's all mutual and beneficial for both sides. This is not Iraq where the US brought in it's puppet and removed saddam and said il have oil for free for ever thank you very much. These Libyans are a little on the islamic side of the spectrum but western educated etc. For sure they will lead Libya in the right direction or the people will punish them

Is it just me or is Obama trying to be "war president" like GWB before his reelection?

To earn that medal he actually has to earn it.

This was all rebels, and to a far lesser degree, the French, British et al.

The driving force behind the latest push on Tripoli was NATO SF, not "revolutionaries".

If there has been a dramatic uptick in European air support, I haven't seen it.

NATO had troops on the ground?
