Re: Forum Rules! You must read.

Some things like that are borderline (suggesting a "reading comprehension problem" is not as black and white as, say, calling someone an "asshole") and are handled at the discretion of moderators in context.

IOW, if you use that, you're rolling the dice - it may wind up removed, it may remain

is saying someone has their head up their keister an insult? or using this as an unspoken alternative:

It's best to report any posts that are questionable. A mod will deal with it.

Suggesting that someone has a reading comprehension problem isn't really a personally insult, but it can be used by people as a baiting technique. It's all in the context of how it's used. If it's directed toward someone who really is having problems grasping what someone is saying, I'd personally let it slide. If it's used against someone who understand what the person is saying, then it's being used to bait someone and it would be considered against the forum rules.

This is similar to our policy on calling someone a 'commie', for example. It it's used against someone who is clearly not a commie, it's baiting. If it's used against someone who often expresses socialist beliefs, it may be a bit harder to judge.

as you wish... I hope I don't become a nuisance in doing so tho... but I have to say tho, that these are the most stringent rules I have ever come across in my four years of forumphing...

not that that's a problem...

It will be nice not to have to smack people around... OMG... you should have seen the place I was at before I was invited here... a veritable cess pool... and with partisan moderators too... if they couldn't win their arguement fair and square, they'd just delete your posts or ban you for the day...

Do one, take a digi-pic, and post it!!!!

Well I can't paint from a photo unless I have the photographer's permission. I don't want to sell prints, get caught and get sued!

Yes, they're a bit more strict than someplace, but certainly not the most strict. You can still swear if you feel the need to and you're free to express any view you wish. I know of quite a few boards where you can do neither of these (as in, no swearing and no racist or sexist beliefs, etc.)

Yea, it's not too bad. Really the "big" rules to watch out for would be to not insult people and to remember to cite your sources.

That's why we have our rules in place, to prevent this from happening. We did have one blatantly partisan moderator. They were quickly stripped of their mod status and eventually got themselves banned from the site.

All the mod actions here are easily viewable by other mods, so we do a good job of keeping eachother in check. We also all come from a variety of political backgrounds, so no one ideology runs the show.

Welcome to the board.

You probably would just get the post deleted on that one, but I'd play it safe and refrain from doing it in the first place.

If you feel the need to belittle whoever you're arguing with, there are plenty of ways to do it within forum rules. Just reading through the board for a bit, you'll certainly see a few posters (and maybe a few mods) being quite rude at times, but doing it within acceptable limits.

We usually frown upon people changing people's user names into personal insults. However, like I said, the mods do review things on a case by case basis. If we don't think it's that hurtful, we may just edit it out of the post and move on.

Recommended ways of blowing of steam while staying within forum rules would be attacking the person's argument ("that is the most retarded idea ever", rather than "you are a giant retard"). Also, sarcasm and condescension are not only accepted, but seem to be quite prevalent around here.
